Pope Leo XIV has blasted how wealthy people live in a “bubble of comfort and luxury” while the poor suffer. In his first teaching document Thursday, Leo confirms that he is in perfect lockstep with Pope Francis on matters of social injustice.

I think it is important to disclose that I have close Antifa connections. It’s true. Several family members were enlisted, heavily armed members of the Antifa movement in the 1930s to 1940s. They flew B-17s that bombed the shit out of Nazis and they fought on the ground to free concentration camps.

If Jack has the true belief that anti fascists have been around since the 1930s, but believes this on the false justification of fascist rhetoric, can we say Jack knows it’s true?

From Donald Trump's Roundtable on Antifa just now —
"Antifa has been around in various iterations for almost 100 years in some instances, going back to the Weimar Republic in Germany."

I feel like this photo of masked, armed men pepper spraying a pastor protecting his community is going to be a defining picture of this moment in America for a long, long time.

What's a bit funny about this is that burning is, per flag code, the proper and respectful way to dispose of a flag.

I know that's missing the point, but still.

I’m still chugging along on my 2014 MacBook Pro. The battery isn’t great now, but it still does all I need it to do… even after dropping it a few times over the years.

A MacBook will last for yrs. And they’re quite durable. Don’t ask me how I know about the last part.

My final straw was when they generated an AI podcast on one of my papers without prior consent.

Anyway, Academia.edu is a grift. This seems like a good final straw if you haven’t deleted your account.

I'm sorry, worldwide, irrevocable, non-exclusive, transferable permission to my voice and likeness? For what now? In any manner for any purpose???

This is in academia/.edu's new ToS, which you're prompted to agree to on login. Anyway I'll be jumping ship. You can find my stuff at hcommons.org.

It’s funny how antifa is talked about as if it were some secret organization and not just a bunch of random small groups of unaffiliated people whose only real commonality is thinking fascism is bad.

Because I didn’t grow up middle class I’m always amused by these middle class affects like RSVP for a protest lololololol

But also don’t fucking create a written record of intent to attend a protest unless you’re fine with that being used against you in court

We need your help to make October 18 the biggest peaceful protest of the year. Please spread the word, register your local event as soon as you can, and start RSVPing for the local protests to help build momentum: www.nokings.org?SQF_SOURCE=i...

Bella Ciao is an Italian anti-fascist anthem and always will be.

Also, Chumbawamba does a great cover of it.

Agreed. We can’t really separate ourselves from any text. But I do see a higher tendency w/, eg, Chicago Statement on Biblical Inerrancy folk, to see their reading as infallible (they “just believe what the Bible says”) than others in American Christianity. Maybe that’s what you mean by rigid though
danielcollette.bsky.social
Approaches to constitutional originalism and biblical inherency (“I just believe what the Bible says.”) are remarkably similar. I’m convinced it stems some from reading the constitution like they were trained to read the bible—your reading is infallibly the author’s intent and not an interpretation.
paulrosenberg.bsky.social
And remember: the original rationale for originalism was to keep judges from getting carried away & just making stuff up!
Tired: Activists judges.
Wired: Hyperactivist judges.

So to connect the dots, we have a pissy and incorrect Alito dissent in March

which was laundered into a shadow docket order in April, and then another shadow docket order in August

and come September DC Circuit is treating absolute buffoonery like ironclad law
