and if wherever you land your riposte is, "but things went wrong because not enough people followed MY ideology" well maybe your ideology should've been fucking better at convincing people huh

i don't particularly disagree with a lot of the critiques of anarchist activism by liberals but I bristle when they act as if their best practices are any wiser. we're here because none of us figured out how to avoid being here.

everyone should have some goddamn humility.

"oh that's why they were so good at writing villains"
No, no shut up, do not follow that logical path.
one thing that would be cool, when prominent creators turn out to be terrible people, would be if we didn't have to go through this performative dance of insisting that their work was never good in the first place.

News I’m somewhat late to but apparently the Indian Navy built a ship based on a fifth century painting and sailed it to Oman to recreate the trading route of the Indian Ocean in late antiquity.

INSV Kaundinya: Hand-stitched Indian ship arrives in Oman - BBC News
The ship, which has no engine and moves under square sails, retraced the ancient route in 17 days.

Holy shit yes, this is exactly what has happened
I was thinking after the music biopic chat yesterday about how the underlying assumption of tech and capital seems to be that culture has stopped, it’s a solved problem. Every innovation has been made, every style invented and trope named, and the old will always provide higher returns than the new
We already have a visual medium that can de-age actors and keep characters eternally young - comics. But we also know from decades of comics doing it that it tends to stagnation. Make up some new stuff eh?

I'm planning to replay all the Remedy games (apart from Death Really, sorry) in readiness for the MP remakes, and genuinely fascinated to see how Remedy handles them. It's the kind of space where a self-aware remake would fit perfectly, but also appreciate that would take an immense amount of work.

Fun fact: Google Genie “game” tool is exactly the same technology as this thing.

How in the world did this spook the investors? Do they have no eyes?
You can try the Microsoft just released a Quake 2 demo that runs on genAI.

It forgets where you are you each time you look at the floor and soft-locks when it's to dark. A technological marvel.

You can try the "Copilot Gaming Experience" here: copilot.microsoft.com/wham

Love when my phone, with storage largely taken up by system files and a couple of bloated (but necessary for work) apps, tells me my storage is nearly full and suggests I delete like 5mb of photos.
Yeah boss, that'll fix it.

When it becomes clear that those same rich and powerful men are exploiting your anti-trans crusade as a diversion from the exposure of their crimes, a dodgy sense of priorities becomes a criminal level of complicity.

Might we tactfully point out that to obsess negatively with trans people when the richest and most powerful men in the world are trying to reverse centuries of humane progress and equality to acquire impunity for rape and murder shows a weird sense of priorities?

You can tell, by how many vantablack rectangles there are, that there are people right now whose stories won't be believed for another quarter century.

The purpose of a machine is what it does, and it is so very obviously a machine for enabling wealthy and powerful child abusers.
