It's like I said last week: you can't "fix" the party by electing "good" Dems. With every victory, you strengthen the hand of the party leadership, no matter how many Mamdanis you put into office. They use the power you give them to betray their base and beat "progressives" into submission.

one upside to being into combat sports / sports in general and moderately reflective about it is being completely immune to political messages of the form "we can't do X because the other side would respond to that"
It’s like saying “desegregation now!” was a bad catch phrase. Well yeah it was scary to a lot of people and faced a lot of resistance and backlash, and even moderates were initially freaked out by the demand to reorder their society, does that make the demand wrong *or* ineffective? Nope nope nope.

I would encourage people to read State and Revolution by Lenin. The military and legal bureaucracy are the *only* essential components of any government and if the bourgeoisie's profits are threatened they'll burn the welfare/administrative state to cinders.

I think a lot about the chance we had at the start of COVID to finally become a more compassionate, collectivist nation, and how profoundly we were failed not only by the sociopathic greed of the ruling class but by each other.
It doesn’t mean we won’t get there, but the lost opportunity haunts me.
