my least favorite kind of social media punditry is "bad thing X must be because of Y" where Y = some shibboleth that's popular with those who share the poster's worldview

one post at a time, it feels like this mental shortcut is grinding away at critical thinking skills and flattening all politics

Looking at my steam library and between bundles/bought just because an indie team came up with an interesting idea, I realized I’m just collecting games at this point with no intention of playing.

Time for a change I’ve bought a bookshelf and I’m going to collect books I’ll never read instead.

The right time to tell someone you’re sick is before the hangout, not during. I can’t believe I have to say this.

Woah!

Ontario passed a law starting Jan 2026 that it is illegal for companies to ghost you.

If you have interviewed for a job they are legally required to inform you if they hire someone else or close the position.

The law also requires salary transparency on listings and disclosing use of AI

Not a fan of the "You won't believe the insane replies my normal post got on Twitter!" engagement bait I see here.

I actually do believe it, because it's a Nazi bar, and also, why are you helping prop up the Nazi bar? And then running here to show us what you contributed to the Nazi bar?

Identity politics on full display. This is 100% a conservative budget but so many libs are salivating over it because Carney can do no wrong, is above criticism, and is given grace few others would be. Unless you’re rich, things aren’t getting better, best we can hope for is they don’t get worse.

Remember when Liberal stans said Carney cutting the Ministry of Women and Gender Equality wasn’t indicative of anything? Turns out it was.
Staring at Canada's own gender-based analysis of its budget. Give you one guess at the main beneficiary of all the major spending investments....

At the end of the day I'm not sure how much difference it makes. But it is striking to put out a budget that axes a luxury tax on yachts and adds a co-pay for refugee claimants accessing drugs and dental care.

Look, it’s really straightforward to get a publisher as a new name indie in 2025. Simply do 95% of the work making and marketing your game, and if your metrics are trending towards almost certain success, a publisher will swoop in to promise the remaining 5%, deliver 3%, and collect 75%

We all go through struggles in life. It is an inescapable part of being human.

The difference between you and the unhoused on the street is that, unlike them, you have resources and a community that has the capacity to care for you in the way you need during your time of struggle.

The mass opening of US gov accounts here just reinforces that Canada needs its own sovereign social media sites. Sorry if that’s lame but we have been trapped in the US online platform cycle for 20 years now and it’s been nothing but bad news for us.

I used to read books like Lord of the Rings or watch movies like Star Wars and think the villains were unbelievable. And of course, now watching the tech oligarchs (who could not spend all their money if they tried) destroy civilization for power, I’m like, guess I was wrong. People are that awful.
