Hey Bluesky! It’s Ward Games, your favorite indie game studio. If you’re following us elsewhere across the ‘Net, you know we’re working on a pretty cool game: Project Lexa, a sci-fi mystery where you explore a planet where everything is written in an alien language! ward-games.com/post/what-th...
What the Heck Have We Been Working On?

Found this on the AO3 subreddit, and I'm about to let it change my whole life (or at least work really hard to internalize it wrt my writing).
Someone's screenshot of a two-post twitter thread, from user blue (@bluewmist):

the fastest way to kill motivation is to make your identity depend on the outcome. it's called ego involvement. when failing becomes failing as a person, your brain starts avoiding the whole thing. not because you don't care, but because you care too much.

you don't need lower standards. you need less self-worth tangled up in your goals. the work gets easier when it's not about proving who you are.

We have a world a FIRSTS this month.

It's the FIRST time our game, Project Lexa, will be playable to the public - at EGX!

It's the FIRST time I'll be traveling internationally ever!

It's the FIRST time I'll be trying a Greggs' sausage roll!

NEW: Nearly 100 current and former developers at MindsEye studio Build A Rocket Boy slam Leslie Benzies and the rest of studio leadership for poor management and botched layoffs.

They say crunch was mandated leading up to release only for 250 people to be sacked afterwards.

You need numbers. I can't tell you how important YouTube trailer numbers are. I pitch indie coverage basically every day, and the metric for what gets covered and what doesn't is internal numbers for previous coverage and YouTube.

If the audience isn't interested, it doesn’t get spin. That's it.

Obviously, massive MASSIVE thanks to the press who *have* covered us -- the reviews we did get were lovely to read

But like, what exactly do we need to achieve for RPS, Kotaku, Polygon, IGN, Gamespot, etc etc to acknowledge us anymore?

How the heck are smaller teams meant to get the word out?

My personal trainer says the same thing to me.

Too bad they were just too delicious. 😔

small games by tiny devs finding huge success by dropping all notions of expression and focusing on dopamine delivery has done some sort of heavy damage to whatever I believed in in the 2010s about game design

I like those Popcorners, especially with some hummus.

This might be why I’ve never gotten past that opening section. It does feel a bit aimless, and there really isn’t much of a narrative thread to compel me to keep going. I recently regrabbed the game to play on Steam Deck and similarly thought, “is this the game? Do I just drift from biome to biome?”

Doesn't look like it can be added to a Flo mask specifically, but thanks for the rec!

A goddamn nightmare.

Also not going out to eat or anywhere else without my mask while I'm there. ✌️

I have an international flight coming up, and with it comes a fun challenge: going gate to gate for 14ish hours without ever taking my brand new Flo mask off.

Nobody has Long COVID, but everybody has brain fog, cognitive decline and memory loss. I talk about the overwhelming scientific evidence that COVID damages the brain, and the overwhelming social unwillingness to acknowledge it in my latest:

I was watching a YouTube vid on the history of WoW raiding, like you do, and honestly there was so many clips of this asshole, MAGA hat in the background and all, it was one of the only times I left a comment on a video saying, “yo, this sucks.”
