So much about politics can be summed up by the answers to two questions:

Who is allowed to be a bully?

And who is allowed to defend themselves?

This is a story about a regime of far-right terrorists in control of the federal government, and it’s worth noting you can’t tell this story without discussing how much it was enabled by the war on terror.

The point then is not about identity politics vs class politics, but rather which politics gets classed or categorised in each, and then as such which get seen as valid, and which not so much.

However, as we know, any political analysis that doesn't include intersectional analyses of how such is manifest differentially along different axes of social location, is an analysis that will end up prioritising the positionality of the default. Hence class analysis which then is about white folks

One of the biggest things I've experienced with this kind of thing is that supposed 'true' left is constructed as those that focus solely on economic matters (class analysis, etc), which almost exclusively operates (at least in the ideal) as a (white) working class prioritisation.

The moment ...
Chomsky’s casual misogyny with Epstein says a lot about what counts as left wing. This is a guy who co-wrote an entire book about the press manufacturing consent without once mentioning patriarchy (or white supremacy). We need a definition of ‘left’ that doesn’t center the concerns of white men.
Remember my thread from last week about "hysteria"? Well, the latest traunch of Epstein files suggests that Noam Chomsky missed that day in History class.

[In 2019, after Epstein pled guilty, Chomsky reassured him, saying it was just part of "the hysteria that has developed about abuse of women"]

COLLINS: On the Epstein files, Elon Musk was in there and so was Howard Lutnick. Did you read those new files?

TRUMP: No. I have a lot of things I'm doing. I don't know. You mentioned two names. I'm sure they're fine. I think it's time for the country to get on to something else.

Abusive men are in a feminized network encountering mechanisms meant to protect people, and they are appealing to a popular audience attempting to undermine those mechanisms by characterizing them as shrill, hysterical, "paranoid."

Worth remembering when they dismiss the Epstein Files stuff as no big deal.

I keep seeing people accuse Gwen of defending/ advocating for burning trash cans or saying people shouldn’t film it. Help me out because all I’ve seen is a very specific take that *legal observers * shouldn’t film dumb protestors committing dumb crimes because that undermines trust in LOs.

(fully know this sounds kumbaya to some ears, and that I'm shoving my hobbyhorse in here) but the difference between "a liberalism that denies its part in previous atrocities or how they relate to today" and "a liberalism that acknowledges its role and is keen to repair towards the future" is HUGE
yeah, the question imo is less about whether a history contains tragedy (they all do for sure) or even whether it's continuous with specific atrocities and crimes (also pretty common) and more about whether the injustice exists today, and what remedies might address it.

Mike Johnson on Trump calling for Rs to "nationalize" elections: "We had 3 Republicans who were ahead on election day in last cycle & every time a new tranche of ballots came in they just magically whittled away until their leads were lost. It looks on its face to be fraudulent. Can I prove it? No"
