"We live in capitalism, its power seems inescapable — but then, so did the divine right of kings. Any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings. Resistance and change often begin in art. Very often in our art, the art of words."

I adore Artemisia Gentileschi's work. She has the most fabulous use of shadow and expression.
Fascinating painting of a very rare subject by Artemisia Gentileschi going up for auction tomorrow at Christie's: A mother presenting her newborn child to St. Blaise (San Biagio), identifiable by the wool comb, the instrument of his martyrdom. www.christies.com/en/lot/lot-6...

I apparently offended the neck gods last night. I have propitiated them with acetaminophen, but they found the sacrifice insufficient.

When the hour is appropriate for another sacrifice, I will try ibuprofen. And maybe a hot pad.

So, funny story. This popup Word was showing me six months early that shows my expiration is March 2026?

Total lie.

Based on this, I bought another year last week while it was on sale, & when I went to redeem the code, it told me it was pushing my expiration out to March 2028.

Twenty. Eight. 🤬
Microsoft, why are giving me this popup for an expiration that is literally five months away???

And I’ve seen it MULTIPLE TIMES now. 😡

Just yesterday I got, "You used to work at OED? Did you quit in a righteous rage when they put in the wrong sense of _literally_?"

I flummoxed him by replying, "No, that happened in 1908, so a bit before my tenure there."

In 1974, Gary Tyler was a Black student bussed into a newly desegregated Louisiana high school. When a white mob attacked his bus and a white student was killed, Gary was wrongfully sentenced to death by an all white jury.

Tyler’s case shows how bias, fear, and discrimination drive wrongful convictions — and why confronting racial injustice in the legal system remains urgent today.

Most young people are worried, as they should be, about the impact that AI will have on their lives and their ability to earn a decent living.

Our job is not complicated. We must make certain that AI and robotics improve life for all, and not just make billionaires even richer.

Sorry about that last post; I try to avoid being Dramatic about things, but my grandpa is on hospice and my grandma is being very “don’t come over” about the situation because god forbid there’s a juice spill or some other normal situation going on, and it’s very frustrating.

I’m going on a walk.

“If you’re a donor or political supporter, you move to the front of the line,” said a lawyer for one pardon-seeker.
How Trump Has Exploited Pardons and Clemency to Reward Allies and Supporters
The president’s second term has brought a flood of clemency for allies and donors — as well as felons, like him, who were convicted of financial wrongdoing.
