When I was a child my grandmother would make “silver dollar” pancakes.

I haven’t thought about that in 20 years. I think they were just small-ish pancakes. I was a lucky child.
I will pay you all $0, and this photo of a turtle in a top hat, if you start skeeting about pancakes right now.*

I don’t know about favourite, but the ones I feel most deeply in my soul are Full House and Dawson’s Creek
favorite opening credits sequence, go

mine is the one-two punch of the Edward Gorey “Masterpiece Mystery” illustrated animation followed by the 80s Art Deco stylings of “Poirot”
We used to have proper opening credits in this country

No cheating. Your last saved celebrity photo is your therapist. Who is it?

I’m into this. She literally looks like how I would imagine my therapist.

I didn’t expect the sense memory of this movie to come rushing back the way it did, and now I so want to watch it again.
"Watching it again, I was amazed by how tightly plotted and fast-paced it was. The voice-over, which has a touch of The Catcher in the Rye, gives Clueless the freedom to insert brief, quasi-anthropological observations that are illustrated with delightful images." www.rogerebert.com/features/eve...

What N. Ireland is experiencing right now is a form of state media censorhip to cover up the overwhelming level of paramilitary involvement in the far-right, white supremacist riots that have swept the North. While cameras and narratives focus on the 'youths' - the men in the shadows .. [1/n]

A lot of Americans don't know this, but the winner of the Canadian election will be required live in a small cottage located in the backyard of the palace where the viceroy to the King of England lives.

The cottage just recently got a new wifi router, which was very exciting for all Canadians.

Research is learning is thinking!
So one of the things that I think is lost on AI proponents is what I call the card catalog effect, a thing I shouldn’t call it because a lot of people probably have no experience with a card catalog.

Writing is thinking.

It’s not a part of the process that can be skipped; it’s the entire point.
This is what's so baffling about so many suggestions for AI in the humanities classroom: they mistake the product for the point. Writing outlines and essays is important not because you need to make outlines and essays but because that's how you learn to think with/through complex ideas.
I'm sure many have said this before but I'm reading a student-facing document about how students might use AI in the classroom (if allowed) and one of the recs is: use AI to make an outline of your reading! But ISN'T MAKING THE OUTLINE how one actually learns?

This is a phenomenal story, subject, and example of scholarship.
A tour-de-force of scholarship and detective work: Fara Dabhoiwala reveals that a portrait of an 18th-century Black scientist, long dismissed as a caricature, is in fact a record of the man's mastery of Newtonian physics—and the only painting made in 1759 of the return of Halley's comet.

The only certainty about the picture is that it shows Francis Williams. No one has ever been able to discover who...
