There were more butts in seats in this stadium for the Weds night 2024 US Open Cup final that there were only a few weeks to promote than there are for this gorgeous Saturday afternoon league opener that there has been twice as much time to promote.

Please. I want to read the dense nerd shit articles with graphics and stats and predicted starting XIs and transfer intrigue and fan vs front office tension and the business side and rivalries and...and...and...

If you write them, I will read, and repost, and comment. And most importantly: pay.
and I know the media (as a whole entity, rather than journos who do care) doesn’t see its job as a tool for growth, but it has a clear role to play in the continued development of the women’s game. And if editors can find column inches for Kerr op-eds, they can find space for genuine woso coverage.

I feel like I go through phases where I need to use Tupperware and everything fits *exactly* right no matter what and others where, despite my best attempt, every container is the wrong size. I'm currently riding the high of Tupperware perfection and I hope to keep it that way.

My day today--using only CTA and on foot--ranges:

10000 S to 5200 N
and
1600 E to 3700 W

In other words, this book club book *will* get read

I AM FILLED WITH SO MUCH JOY!!!

Somehow they will mess this up just by virtue of it being in Lakeview. But I can dream that there will finally be a proper local donut shop on the North Side
Dat Donut, a South Side favorite, is opening a new spot in Lakeview.

This is a huge acknowledgement. All of the workers who go into making something, not just the stars, deserve a union. And that union is one of the best ways to fight against abuse on the job.
Asked Meghann how the NWSL can better protect front office employees, and here’s what she had to say:

“All the things we fought for apply to all employees… I would love to see front office workers organize.”

We can just call them the Chicago Red Stars, refusing to acknowledge the new branding, and there's nothing the team can do about it
We are officially in the "Chicago Stars FC" branding era 😑 #NWSL

he will be responsible for moving the City to the right while simultaneously peddling predicted performative politics
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson’s administration made a big deal about pushing for a city-owned grocery store and said they’d pursue state money for the program. But records dug up by @taliasoglin.bsky.social show they didn’t even apply.

Johnson administration passes on state funding for publicly owned grocery store
The decision to pass on state funding raises questions about the future of the bold proposal the mayor first floated more than a year ago.

@theathletic.bsky.social is the main part of NYT coverage I read at this point. Their work is high quality and consistent and they deserve the benefits & protections of Union membership.
I'm proud to stand w/ my colleagues at @theathletic.bsky.social as we work with The NY Times Guild to protect & support our journalists.

We are the Times’ sports section, and sports jobs are union jobs. bsky.app/profile/news...

Seeking recs: BDS-compliant (no Dell/HP, ideally no Intel processor but that might be harder to avoid) windows laptops, 3+ year expected lifetime, mostly used for internet browsing, streaming, and occasionally hobby data projects with smaller (~100k rows) datasets in R/Python. Ideally cost <1k.

All MLS teams should play in the US Open Cup and US Soccer should be stronger in ensuring this is the case. If, as Garber states, teams can't play in all three of Concacaf, US Open Cup, and Leagues Cup - it's the Leagues Cup that should go.
MLS commissioner Don Garber on the U.S. Open Cup:

“We will participate in the U.S. Open Cup next year, we will likely have more teams.”

Adds that it's near impossible for teams to be in all tournaments (CCC, Leagues Cup, Open Cup)

Q for Chicago BlueSky: I know that post-WW2, there was a sizable Japanese community in the city, both in Kenwood and Lakeview. There's not a concentrated Japanese community in those places anymore. Does anyone know when people started migrating and if there was a specific trend where/why?

Today is a clear reminder of why #PlowTheSidewalks is so important and why we have worked tirelessly advocating for the City to release its pilot recommendations.

The City must now follow through on its commitment and fund it. A report is meaningless unless plows hit pavement.
