He's in the air, with his family, en route to Spain!

But you can help his family with their re-settlement expenses; he's been under attack since 2017 but moving overseas is big bucks for professors

Hurrah! Been checking for updates all day, so glad to hear it!
evilmam.bsky.social
I agree completely

I stalked the bugs for 2 weeks and each one popped out while my back was turned, *including* the one my phone pestered me to check on every 20 minutes. It was raining the day of the very last cocoon so I put my phone in a Mylar envelope and propped it on a brick.

My phone battery was 6% by the end

Yes, they were hassling with the airline about the reservation suddenly being canceled (you know how, at the gate, you swipe your boarding pass to board the plane? at that point in the process, the system said 'nope') and the plane left while they were trying to figure out why. That's the 'drama'.

I will 100% every single time say underwear instead of panties

Don't why that word bugs me but in my head it's got such a pervy pedo vibe

Caught the very last of the Monarch cocoons and was able to get the timelapse video I'd been hoping for! (the big moment is 15 seconds in; in real life this was almost 30 minutes)

I think this is a situation where he mistook "I personally had not thought about this" for "nobody thinks about this".

Self-important people do this sometimes, no big.

A smidge of 'waah reverse discrimination' in that "he's not respected because country music isn't respected" part there.

Uh huh.

woah woah the Matthew Sweet *what* now?

My dude was disappointed at first (the lady who fitted it for him oversold the benefits) but when we went camping and he left it at home, he realized oh I used to feel like this (i.e., like shit) everyday

It took time to get the hang of it; switching to the 'nasal pillows' from the mask was key

It's like when I say my dad died of lung cancer, the first thing some people (many people tbh) say isn't "oh I'm so sorry for your loss" but "oh was he a smoker?"

They're not bad people, but they're searching for a reason why my dad being mortal doesn't mean they too might be.
evilmam.bsky.social
When my dad was dying I read "Advice for Future Corpses" (REALLY useful, btw) and she starts off with saying that the #1 way humans handle living with the knowledge of their own mortality is denial.

So the early pandemic days have to be memory-holed or we lose that defense.

I do find myself suddenly wishing there were a band named Generic Magnetic Balls though

edit: prevent not preserve

Damn that was GOOD

Comfortably cis person here but parts of what you wrote about really hit home for me as a person who dated guys, and other parts were so good to read as a parent of a beloved trans —technically-an-adult — kid

thanks

If not, it takes courage to imagine yourself (a healthy capable person) transformed into someone incapacitated and not wearing a mask is maybe how you preserve admitting that everyone does eventually die and most of us will eventually to some extent be disabled.

The only place I've been in the past year where a lot of folks were masked was the line for Covid vaccines.

If you personally know someone with long Covid, if you're a person with a chronic health condition, if you help care for such a person, wearing a mask is such an easy thing.

I turned in the same essay twice in the same high school class, just wrote a different title at the top and a different date. Don't need AI to be a slacker if your teacher DGAF! This was in 1981

I wrote a 15 page report on heraldic symbolism in medieval armor and weapon design for my art history class the night before it was due (8am class). Made up 90% of it (only found one book for reference) and got an A. GenAI could fucking never.
wrote 20 pages on Faulkner's The Bear four hours before final papers were due on trucker pills and coffee and cigarettes and got an A, fuck you.
You people couldn't hang with real slackers.

I like that you wrote alt text for this

I know, right? It's so crazy to be vibrating between 'this is really really bad' and 'everything seems to be okay' several thousand times a day
evilmam.bsky.social
He looks like he knows *exactly* how cute he is, too

like 'giving you a present by letting you look at me'

but sweet with it
evilmam.bsky.social
But he's a cis het white conservative guy and the rule for such as him is that everybody everywhere exists in some way for his personal sexual use

Blocking apps are for the rest of us, the people who can be criticized

especially when the way we do it gives you a tax credit in no way proportional to the expense of raising a child and his idea is we get rid of even that

all stick no carrot

He does have ADHD, and there can be some overlap with folks on the spectrum sometimes in terms of social impacts, especially for people diagnosed later in life, but still, it's just rude to be gossiping about people's differences this way. I was disappointed in both of them for participating in it.
