Logged onto BlueSky just to say I appreciate every episode of JJGO that Mary Roach is on. She's an all time best guest.

I understand the wretched T&S calculus Bluesky PBC is making, even as I disagree with it and the results.

We must keep putting our chips into supporting things that are open AND decentralized.

Within ATProto, that means supporting efforts like @blackskyweb.xyz and @transrights.northsky.social.

I am not a lawyer, but I believe you would need to sue them to force them to provide proof. You would need to be prepared to pay their legal fees if you are wrong.

Yes they can buy and scan the books. They have already done that, and Judge Alsup declared it to be fair use. I am not a lawyer but I highly doubt putting a "no AI training" clause in your book would do anything, because it's considered fair use.

Company hired Google’s book-scanning chief to cut up and digitize “all the books in the world.”…

Since 2023, translators and interpreters have seen work dry up, rates plummet and their jobs reduced to editing AI-generated output. Some are leaving the field, others are considering bankruptcy. All despite any major upgrade in translation quality.

This is how AI is killing translation work:
AI Killed My Job: Translators
Few industries have been hit by AI as hard as translation. Rates are plummeting. Work is drying up. Translators are considering abandoning the field, or bankruptcy. These are their stories.

Working on a CEO speak translator. So far I’ve got

1. We’re ending remote work and returning to office to improve collaboration = stealth layoffs

2. We are an AI first company and you don’t get more resources until you can show why you can’t do the job with automation = hiring freeze

Any others?

How are people claiming they bought their cybertruck before Musk went MAGA and being repeated by reporters; Elon endorsed election deniers in November 2022, the first cybertruck was delivered November 2023

it’s weird that we’re staring down the second unprecedented economic catastrophe in five years and instead of a novel coronavirus that will go on to kill millions of people this one is just “no one was willing to tell him no”

you have to be genuinely stupid as fuck to think american companies are going to respond to tariffs by building factories and moving manufacturing to the US. i don't know how else to say it. you have to be genuinely braindead

Becoming a “thank you for your service” guy for a car dealership is the logical endpoint of American conservatism
fancysandwiches.bsky.social
I'm not saying it's sound logic. I'm just saying that I think that's what people are trying to say when they say this kind of thing. I think what actually happened is that Disney sucks shit and is incapable of creating anything new.
fancysandwiches.bsky.social
I *think* what people are trying to say is that they're spending 250M to create a new version that *is* copyrighted. Just like how only a very specific variation of Mickey is in the public domain.
