It really is amazing how much of political punditry, *especially* elite outfits in NYC and Washington, still embrace this bizarre idea that rural spaces represent the "Real America" while metropolitan areas, where most (presumably real) Americans actually live, should be held in contempt.
Just going to point out again that our arbitrary political rules permit Republicans to attack urban areas with impunity but strictly forbid the faintest whiff of condescension toward rural areas by Democrats
“The first thing I thought was, ‘What is she talking about?’” said Bryan Fish, the vice mayor of Culver City, whom everyone calls Bubba but doesn’t look like someone whom everyone calls Bubba. “The only crime here,” he added, “is like the $18 strawberry at Erewhon.”

Utterly unacceptable in a democracy. In a sane world, House Republicans would be drafting impeachment articles today and Senate Republicans would be preparing for a trial to convict and remove him from office

That was, and remains, the model used. Donald Trump used to openly talk about the feeble-minded, easily fooled followers of the very individuals mentioned below. Also, America is largely a hostage to conservative, Bible-based hypocrisy. Recruit a conman, suffer a conman's agenda.
"Trump has become a parody of a 1980s televangelist, openly grifting his followers for massive amounts of cash. (His ballroom is practically his own Heritage USA.) But Jim Bakker and Jimmy Swaggart put on a more convincing show." — @playtyperguy.com

Repeat after me:
An executive order is not a royal edict; it is not law. It is a direction to the executive branch as to how to carry out the law.

Also:
Key parts of Trump's last EO on elections have been stopped by federal courts, ruling that the President has no role to play in federal elections
Trump’s follow up post says he’s going to issue an executive order on voter ID.

“If we can't get it through Congress, there are Legal reasons why this SCAM is not permitted. I will be presenting them shortly, in the form of an Executive Order.”

The portrayal of Renée Montoya in Gotham Central, by Greg Rucka and Michael Lark, was a high point of lesbian visibility in mainstream comics, almost a quarter century ago.
The posts below examine that character arc.

In an article for Autostaddle, May Rude calls Gotham Central “one of the defining books for queer women in comics.” This legacy begins with the award-winning story “Half a Life” starring Renee Montoya, which masterfully yokes superhero conventions to institutional and social critique. 1/12

This is something the Nazis used to do to Jewish children in the camps. It happened to a man I knew when he was a child in Auschwitz. The camp guards thought it was funny as hell.
On Thanksgiving, the immigrant children held at the Dilley detention center gathered in the gym for what they thought was a holiday feast.

The kids salivated over a spread of turkey, sandwiches, pastries and pies, a family told me.

But the food wasn’t for detainees — it was for the staff.

Trans rights are a great litmus test for candidates -
Do they believe in bodily autonomy?
Do they believe in science?
Do they like women and believe women are capable adults?
Do they have weird religious hang ups about sex and gender?
Are children people?
Etc
Me: I want Democrats who plan to run for president to openly declare their support for full trans rights. This is my one requirement in order for me to consider voting for them.

Weird centrists: YOU SHOULD BE QUIET AND VOTE FOR WHICHEVER CANDIDATE HAS A D BY THEIR NAME NO MATTER WHERE THEY STAND
