The federal occupation of Minneapolis has devastated our small businesses. Particularly, our immigrant-owned businesses.

That’s why I’m working with my colleagues to bring forward a $5 million “Small Business Resiliency Fund” for small businesses impacted by “immigration enforcement”. 1/

I have heard this rhetoric from my liberal (not leftist) neighbors — I wish this were just a stupid thing Frey is saying, but people are ACTUALLY THINKING IT INDEPENDENTLY.
"I've heard a lot of renewed confidence in our police department. For example... people are seeing the juxtaposition between the way they're handling things and the way that ICE is handling things."

This is an @elliottpayne.org appreciation post.

Not only has he spent every day (!) personally patrolling our neighborhood, he showed up for the Alex Pretti ride and naturally protected his fellow riders.

DFL legislators need to insist on a compensation fund of tens of millions of dollars to offset economic harms of the ICE siege. It infuriates me that Mercado Central has to hold a $500,000 bake sale to hold onto their building. Tens of fucking millions.

You’re describing an emergency. The world is also watching you and waiting for you to do something.

Are you going to establish an eviction moratorium? Rent is due today.
They’re taking kids from Minnesota and sending them to detention camps. They’re shooting American citizens in the street and locking investigators out of the crime scenes. The world is watching what happens next.
Hundreds of people spelled out the distress signal "SOS" on Bde Maka Ska in Minneapolis on Friday, Jan. 30.

My kid and I go to dance class here every week. I’ve had her birthday parties here for three years. My neighbor was there this morning and a ICE agent ran into him with his car. The brutality of ICE is inescapable, baked in to our day-to-day lives.
This morning, federal agents staged at the Powderhorn Park Recreation Center lot and began to throw chemical irritants at observers. They also kidnapped an observer. Our parks are meant for our children, youth, and neighbors. They should never be militarized zones meant to separate families. 1/

Here is a video taken just this morning of ICE pepper spraying my friend who was standing several feet away, and behind a fence, from agents attempting an abduction.

Nothing about their conduct has changed. We need to continue our observations but please do so as safely as possible.

Fuck ICE.

I have held my nose and voted blue no matter who for my entire adult life. But I really think Amy Klobuchar for governor (in this political climate) is going to break that streak.
do I think Amy Klobuchar is a good candidate for governor? no.

do I think she's capable or interested in fighting fascism with the seriousness this moment requires? no.

but as a DFLer who knows we need to win the governor's office with a safe candidate am I going to vote for her anyway? also no.

yeah sorry to any out-of-towners made uncomfortable by this, but FYI it's pretty easy to look up the AirBnBs in your neighborhood, see if they're rented, see if they only have on-street parking, and then make it part of a daily routine to keep an eye out.

ICE are not our neighbors.

I still hate that @bsky.app changed the settings for lists so reposts show up. Now I have to see the same posts over and over in my local Twin Cities list because we're all reposting each other. Which is fine! I repost a lot! But I don't want to have to mute people and lose their original content!

Thank you, Jason, for absolutely everything you are doing for our ward and our city. I could not be prouder to have voted for you, to be represented by you, to see your dedication and resolve and tirelessness day in and day out. This Ward 9 neighbor is so grateful for you ❤️❤️
There isn’t any indication that immigration activity has changed in Minneapolis. In fact, this afternoon, federal immigration agents began staging at Holy Rosary Catholic Church located in East Phillips. This activity is disgraceful and creates an unsafe environment for our neighbors. 1/

Hot comms tip for nonprofits, if you can't make a clear statement that you are against ICE and racially discriminatory kidnappings, don't bother making a statement at all. A mealy mouthed statement that somehow doesn't mention immigration or ICE is not worth putting out.

There will be generational collective and individual trauma from the occupation, no doubt. Let us Minnesotans look to Black feminist theory, Indigenous theory, and so many other marginalized groups’ theories for solace and a roadmap for how to survive and heal.

Even if the immediate spectacular terror of the last month has calmed, ICE is still here, people are still being taken. And when this surge does end, it will take months or years for people to recover. Jobs lost, wage-earners taken, businesses closed — longterm resources are needed.
please remember that no matter how many “ICE is losing in MN” articles you read today, there is still a very real, urgent, ongoing crisis in Minnesota.

people need food and they need rent money. that has not changed.

Go off, Boss!
I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good.
