HHS has ordered CDC to stop its influenza vaccine “Wild to Mild” media campaign. This is an award-winning campaign that effectively explains how influenza vaccine may not prevent infection but does decrease illness severity. We are currently having one of the worst influenza seasons in 15 years.

The response was entirely positive, so let the Nazi Punch of the Day begin. It seems appropriate to start with a classic. This is from Captain America Comics #1. The cover date was March 1941, but from what I've read, it was on the shelves several months earlier.

The Riddle Master of Hed was amazing when I first read it at 13. At 57, it’s heartbreaking genius, and I don’t know that anyone has written anything better in the fantasy genre. If I write anything that’s half as good I will have entirely justified my existence. McKillip was a treasure.

Okay, this is pretty great. I didn’t realize how much friction it was to look up each phone number until this app had them ready to go, one after another. Plus it tells you how many other people used the app to call about the issue (14,700 on the federal funding freeze alone!)
Okay, I cannot recommend 5calls.org enough. Enter your address and it will find all your reps (federal and state). AND give you a list of issues to call about AND which reps to call about each of them AND a little script for each, in case it's helpful. They have an app, too.

When Galileo was forced to recant his claim that Earth revolved around the sun, he's alleged to have said, "Eppur si muove," which means "Still it moves."

Because the ignorant proclamations of petty, power-hungry tyrants can't change the truth.

To me the cool thing about this image is that the sprinkling of blue stars are in the foreground, some 5 million light years away, while all those gorgeous colorful swirly galaxies are almost unimaginably more distant, out in the far depths of the cosmos. More info: www.stsci.edu/contents/med...
Oh come ON now. This new JWST image is just ASTOUNDING.

I feel like I’m falling looking into it, and that I would fall forever, and that I would enjoy it.

It's an excellent time for a quick look at a network of 32 content farm accounts that have been attempting to build an audience through "fun" image posts (and good old-fashioned bulk following), apparently in order to sell random crap on Amazon.

"Raising the Stones" by Sherri Tepper, which I actually have rarely gifted because it's been out of print for years in the US (there's a UK version one can find if one looks). In the US there's no ebook version either, nor audio anywhere. I only rarely meet people who have read it, which is a shame.
Hey, pals:

What’s the book (fiction or non-) that you think of as your secret? Ie, nobody knows how astounding it is but you? Sure sign: you’ve bought multiple copies to give away. Two of mine: “The Mezzanine” by @nicholsonbaker.bsky.social and “Golden Gate” by Vikram Seth. What’s yours?
