The cashtag thing is just silly but it does act as a nice little potted example of the problems of tech brain, namely that tech people don't recognize that their actions are read for intent and signaling (like everyone's actions) and they get mad at you if you do so.

I think an important factor is that we transitioned from a single phone serving a group of people, be it a family, an office, or whatever, to each of us having a phone in our pocket that serves only ourselves.
