The solution is obvious, a constitutional amendment to elect the AG separately. Or at least, that's more likely than a depoliticized DOJ going forward under the next GOP president.

Actually, both are right. Republican lies and misinformation succeeded because USAID hadn't successfully told its story to Americans. If Americans knew the truth about what USAID did, they wouldn't fall for Republican lies.
