My family often gives food as Christmas gifts. Ever so glad to come home to my aunt’s spaghetti sauce after this first day back in the office and to have my cousin’s chili defrosting for tomorrow.

I thought of a recipe to use up random leftovers in the fridge, one of the best signs that stress and fatigue are fading. I’m now enjoying a bowl of arugula cauliflower soup on this gray January afternoon.

Discovered something that made me so suddenly hangry that I slowly backed away from my computer and inhaled a burrito before I sent the email I that had started drafting.

Once when dating, I dropped so many hints about wanting a robe ahead of my birthday. No robe. After that ended, I mentioned it once to my current partner, almost out of habit, realized it, and made a point not to do it again. The next gift giving holiday, he gave me a robe.
Couldn't disagree with this more. Women say what they want every day. If you don't remember, that's on you. Not her friends.

In the midst of so much stress and ugliness, I got to spend my day outdoors on a beautiful winter day and see stupid cute kids waddle in ski boots.

I visited the Louis Vuitton Foundation last month, and walked by the Grand Palais later that day. It was very cool to visit and take in both the building and the view. It has an exhibit about the building itself that we loved. His buildings make me pause and note the surroundings more completely.

Oh, the responses are so good. I’ve snorted and/or squealed with laughter at MANY different stories.

My mother forgetting to remove the plastic wrap when baking rolls doesn’t even rate compared to most of these tales.
yes, hello, I would like to place an order for everyone’s funniest stories of holiday food-related family grudges / drama / chaotic incidents / lore

I feel like we need this

Earlier today I realized I was crossing into the “too many desserts” space of Thanksgiving planning, but then a friend I didn’t expect to accept the invitation did and is bringing two others. Two pies (pumpkin, cherry), two tassies (pecan, buttermilk), and a bar (cranberry lemon) it is.

Minnesota nonprofit fundraising folks, I hope you have a wildly successful Give to the Max Day.

I had the big onboarding session for ski school today. Two men, I felt, dismissed, insulted, and/or ignored my work in previous seasons in comments. I decided to call them out on it afterwards, and hey, some actual good conversations happened.

Cheers to not stifling things?

These results are the equivalent of a spoiler to THE CITY WE BECAME.

Today is election day, and it is also roast the gravy turkey day. I am still figuring out my convection oven. I lowered the recipe’s temp by 25 degrees and checked after 90 min - the 13.5# bird was already passed 165 degrees. I'll lower the temp even more next time, I guess?

The polls are officially open, Minneapolis!

Today you can choose a different course for our city. You can choose a mayor who cares as much about your city and your neighbors as I know you do.

We deserve better, Minneapolis. Rank me first when you vote today so we can do better – together.

I am annoyed by so many vendors right now, in an overwhelming way, and I just don’t push back or respond to any of them. Tonight, though, I finally drafted a 500+ word email response, where hopefully I landed “you did one thing right!” before launching into “but did you listen at all?”

Read this. And then rank @dewayneforminneapolis.com, @omarfatehmn.com and @jazzformayor.bsky.social. That's my order; yours may be different. But Jacob Frey should not be on your list.
I’m asking everyone to vote for a new Mayor by Tuesday and rank all 3 of Omar Fateh, Dewayne Davis, and Jazz Hampton in whichever order you prefer. I’ve worked at City Hall for the last 4 years and from my personal experiences I believe the City desperately needs a new mayor.

I was one of those 1,127 voters! It was fantastically run. I was sent to the “crustacean station,” vs the numbered stations, to get my ballot, which was delightful. Got my sticker and, hopefully, am off the door knocking lists for these last days.
One of today's voters (who happens to be a candidate) posted that it was "busy" at the Minneapolis Early Vote Center (EVC). How busy? Busy to the tune of 1,127 voters in 6 hours. That's one voter every 19 seconds. Those EVC staffers are rock stars.

I only have Snickers left as a chocolate option. Twix, Milky Way, plain and peanut M&Ms are all gone.

I feel so out of character having only a peanut chocolate option.

My crabby old lady thing on Halloween is how many kids think they should get two full sized candy.
November 1, 2025 at 12:54 AM
As I kid with nut and dairy allergies I would say, “Trick or treat unless it’s peanuts or chocolate” and watch adults’ faces fall.

As an adult, I give out full size chocolate, Ring Pops, and non candy items like puzzles and bubbles. The Ring Pops are crazy popular.

Started prepping a Thanksgiving gravy turkey for a dry brine while waiting for my first Halloween trick-or-treater.

I’ll roast the turkey, freeze the meat for pot pies, make stock, and then make a do-ahead gravy for Thanksgiving proper.

Minneapolis deserves an experienced, caring mayor that reflects the best of our city: our values, our principles, and openness to new ideas. Last night, I made it clear: I'm running because I believe that I am the right person for the job. I hope you think so too.

Ok, this summoned a 🧵 I’ve been meaning to write, as genuinely sad as it makes me. My friends at @minnesotareformer.com made what I think is a bad call. They decided that since they are a statewide outlet focusing on the legislature, they weren’t gonna cover the Minneapolis City election EXCEPT …
This made me curious about the Reformer - as they’ve been on their good, honest government kick - and it looks like they’ve just passed on all the Frey city hall stuff of late too.
