@govpritzker.illinois.gov Trump sent stormtroopers into cities around Chicagoland yesterday including Evanston. They threatened Illinoisans at gunpoint. They demanded our papers. They kidnapped us. These stormtroopers are who you've sent our Illinois State Police to protect.
Some context to the viral videos:

Around 9am Friday, ICE/CBP *encircled* several square miles of a safe suburb and *stormed* it using multiple units.

They were in cars, on foot in alleys & gangways, and in helicopters. They demanded papers, threatened residents, pointed guns, kidnapped people.

Hey guys, instead of using the Illinois State Police to back up these criminals why don't you start investigating their crimes? Kidnapping, breaking & entering, brandishing firearms, assault. So many options beyond filing law suits.
The day after the Chinatown raid, New York AG Tish James launches an online portal for the public to submit photos and videos of ICE activity.

"We are committed to reviewing these reports and assessing any violations of law," she writes.

Do we have secret state police in Illinois @govpritzker.illinois.gov? We've seen very clearly the horrors that ICE agents' anonymity allows. Don't give your troopers the same license to abuse the public!

Require all police in Illinois to wear identifying marks on any uniformed assignment.
Have seen a few troopers out here without their name patches. This one tells me they're not required to wear them "with this uniform."

Asked him to identify himself and he then told me his name is "Tad Nelson."

@duckworth.senate.gov and @durbin.senate.gov, you seriously couldn't stand up straight enough to vote against honoring a hate preacher? What's next - David Duke Day? Nathan Bedford Forrest Day?

Every time you let this fascist bullshit pass without objection you get weaker. Stand up for us!

I'm still hearing, occasionally, a lament that "you should've voted for Kamala", whoever that "you" is.

235 days have passed and nobody can go back to change the result. Not on November 6th and not now. Telling people what they should have done helps nothing.

Hey @ericswalwell.bsky.social, *what* things has Mamdani "said about the Jewish people"? Do you have any actual quotes or is this just a vague allusion to things he never said because you want to smear a real progressive?

Note to reporters, editors, politicians, and somebody's uncle: I can be worried/angry/sad about more than 1 thing at at time.

Does this sound like someone you can work with? Johnson will happily let his allies and their goons lock you away.
Be aware:

Speaker Johnson just spoke to press and said that Padilla's behavior rises to the level of a censure. Are you freaking joking me.

@sanders.senate.gov You gotta know that a big reason Dr King's non-violent strategy was effective is that it was the alternative, the better option. The implicit risk of a violent reaction to society and government ignoring the demands of a movement gives non-violence power.

Maybe if the Senate minority leader showed some spine and some initiative once in a while the administration might tread more lightly?
Mayor Ras Baraka has been released, but he should never have been arrested by Trump to begin with.

@governor.ny.gov why are you letting the Republicans use New York State Troopers as their rent-a-Gestapo to drag dissidents out of a public meeting?

🧵
NY-17 Rep. Mike Lawler had a local social worker physically dragged out of his town hall Sunday night.

Emily Feiner was singled out by private security, lifted out of her seat, as the crowd chanted “let her stay” and “shame, shame.”
She’s a constituent.
Not a threat.
Fascism again.

@gavinnewsom.bsky.social You damn fool. The tariffs are a distraction. The DOGE BS is a distraction. Sideshow Bobby and his anti-health malarkey are a distraction.

What they're distracting you from is Trump's Gestapo kidnapping people and disappearing them without any chance to defend themselves.

It always seems to come down to "yes, the MAGAs are abducting people on the streets, destroying the nation's economy, eviscerating science as a force for good, and openly practicing racism and misogyny, but the 'left' tried to get people to use respectful language. We were forced to be fascist."

Hey @durbin.senate.gov, you could take a turn too! When the business of the Senate is hurting Americans, and letting Trump and Musk hurt Americans without interference, you need to stop that business from happening.
I’ve taken the Senate floor and will speak for as long as I’m physically able to lift the voices of Americans who are being harmed and not being heard in this moment of crisis. Watch here:

It'd be great to see @duckworth.senate.gov join in this. Shut the machine down until it stops hurting Americans
I’ve been a @booker.senate.gov critic since like 2010, but this is unambiguously good, this is what we need more of, this is worthy of celebration. Obstruct. Throw sand in the gears. Every Democratic Senator should take their turn doing it.
Cory Booker has taken the Senate floor and plans to filibuster as long as he’s physically able to protest the complete disregard for the rule of law by Trump and Musk.

If I were a Democrat, and I saw Trump do a purge of high-level generals who were women and people of color and wouldn't be "yes men," I wouldn't vote to advance JD Vance's college friend for Secretary of the Army.

And yet....16 Democrats just did so

Gonna clean up their phrasing because I'm a helpful little copy editor: "giving a provocative gesture . . . ." should read "saluted like the Nazi he is and always has been"
Steve Bannon whipped up the CPAC crowd by talking about the possibility of Trump staying in office for a third term—and concluded his speech by giving a provocative gesture that resembled the controversial salute Elon Musk gave at a post-inauguration rally last month.
Steve Bannon Mimics Elon Musk’s VERY Controversial Salute
The president himself has suggested the idea of staying in office many times since moving back into the White House.
