As a prof, I do not care how quickly a student can write an answer under the stress of a timer.
I care about what they actually know, learned, & can analyze. It didn't change my online course grades when I went from timed to untimed.
So here’s the thing: I, a certified Disabled™️ Person, do not actually care if anyone fakes for an extra 20 minutes on the test. I care deeply about how the fear of that very thing puts up flaming hoops disabled people have to jump through.

Maybe listen to disabled folk on this one.
Balancing "no person with a disability should be denied accommodations" with "it's important to discourage non-disabled people from pretending to be disabled to take advantage of these accommodations" is really difficult and I don't have a great answer for what anyone should do about it.

An emotional support dog is not a service dog.
Please know the law and the difference before talking about this so confidently
You can see both at the grocery store. The service is usually cited as ‘emotional support’ though, I haven’t seen anyone insinuate that it’s an extensively trained animal.

I am working on an exhibit at the Beach Museum of Art that is pairing the drawings of California WPA artist, Evelyn Renfrew, and clothing from the K State Historic Costume and Textile Museum. Look at how adorable these little drawings are!

We had a costume party fundraiser at the art museum where I work. I was a beanie baby and my bestie was Ms. Frizzle. We embraced the 90s nostalgia clearly. (Another coworker was the Log Lady from Twin Peaks)

my similar boomer opinion is that i think “home economics” or whatever the equivalent is ought to be mandatory for students in middle and high school.
boomer opinion i have is that there are way more young adults out there who legit don’t know how to take care of themselves in very basic ways than we’d probably be comfortable with knowing

I posted about this last night, but will say here again there is nothing new here for the US, and it’s always been about white supremacy.

1940s dog owners, I am begging you to name your Dobermans something other than “Rex,” “Duke,” and “Prince.” I have 988 of these little USMC war dog service books to go through, and I’ve lost count of how many Dukes, Princes, and Rexes that I have encountered.

I wrote something new for History Respawned today. It's a review of a new book about Red Dead, but it's really about academic writing and historical game studies as a field. Please read, but also know, I really really really really REALLY didn't want to write this review.

I just don't get it.

The United States is doing every single step one would need to do for a soft genocide.

And this congresswoman goes "maybe the public just isn't ready for trans rights, we have to consider that"

NO.

THE FUCK.

WE DO NOT.

I really enjoyed talking to Dr. Grey Stafford on Zoo Logic.

We chatted zoos, war, whether I'm an "animal person" (I am), & how to turn empathy for specific animals into empathy for all animals.

I hope to chat w/ more zoo folks soon.
