So here's a tip: turn off all notifications for social media. I'm not kidding. Stop the cycle where it starts. Only go onto Bluesky and Discord or whatever when you want to. Don't let the app tell you when to look at it. You're the boss of it, not the other way round

You may know some people like this; they read those condensed summaries of books rather than read the whole thing themselves. They watch movies and documentaries at faster than normal speed to "get through them faster." All destination, no journey.

Thoughts (no spoilers) 70 minutes in: yeah this is pretty unsettling, although more in a post-apocalyptic there's-no-hope way than an Evil Dead parade-of-violence-and-trauma way. But I've been assured it escalates, so we'll see

I've only been through two Dem primaries in Virginia that got at all tense (Webb vs Miller in 2006, Perriello vs Northam in 2017), and never at any point in either of those did one side suggest the other had to pre-emptively surrender.

I'm guardedly optimistic that you don't necessarily need a parade of media stories to notice if prices are going up. I'm not very vigilant about food prices, and even I noticed beef and coffee are easily 30% higher than last year

When prices were going up under Biden there was a constant deluge of news stories about it because the media did not like Biden and wanted him to lose. Under Trump there is not a constant deluge of news stories about coffee prices because they like Trump and want him to win
