Sometimes books are improved by completely missing the subtext because you’re reading them from another cultural context and are also 10 years old

Right.

The problem is that that is "policing", which a lot of these people reflexively hate.

They'd rather have the justice of the mob, so they have to work backwards to internally justify it.
“Demanding consequences from people who have done wrong” is not bullying. Putting up posters around town mocking someone for being gay is bullying.

“Bullying” is bad by definition. It’s not a value neutral tool to be deployed positively toward good ends. It’s so fucked up that people want so badly to reclaim this thing, and are so eager to do it that they want to brand things that aren’t bullying as bullying.
"Some people deserve to be bullied" is always wild to see because it's so deliberately childish as to make it difficult to imagine the person saying it has the moral capacity of an adult human being.

Reinforcing social norms that being a bigot is not just unacceptable but pathetic is not bullying. Bullying is a power trip. Hurting people smaller than you because hurting people feels good.

That they don't understand that "demand people use the Spanish-language terminology when speaking in English" would get them lit up if the roles were reversed really says it all.

The thing is that's fine in Spanish or Portuguese. Call us norteamericanos, it's your language, have fun. But just as I wouldn't tell a German, "Sie sind wirchlich German, nicht 'Deutscher,'" you shouldn't tell others what to call themselves in their language.

it looks like crap and immediately antagonizes a good chunk of us. if that's your goal, carry on. if that's not your goal, consider "Americans"
If your argument involves referring to Americans as “USians” it doesn’t matter how cogent the rest of your point may be tbh

There is not enough manpower to put the US under martial law.

Right now ICE and the Border Patrol - who have a blank check to hire as many people as they want - are effectively doing a national tour from place to place.

In the future Luthen is mostly remembered because of a pop history book called THE SPY ON ANTIQUARIAN ROW: THE UNTOLD TRUE STORY OF THE MAN WHO BUILT THE REBEL ALLIANCE, and historians are like "You know there's not actually that much evidence. He seems to have been a minor player. Please stop it."

Yeah some “touristy” stuff should be avoided, but it’s mostly overpriced mediocre restaurants that are pretty easy to spot. And if you are in a city with tourist trap restaurants, then you are in a city with tons of alternatives, so it’s not even an issue worth getting worked up over

The idea that “touristy” stuff is for uneducated rubes and real heads search out “authentic” experiences is honestly something that we need to shoot into the sun. Touristy stuff is great, even in your own city!
People who feel bad at being called tourists are without doubt the most tedious people on earth to get stuck next to on a plane and it isn't close to close
Tourists are an interesting group in that they consistently deny what we all know they are. I can’t think of anything that screams tourist more than reducing each experience down to charm bracelet size and wearing it around. If tourism is your thing, just embrace it!

Pope Leo XIV told students not to use artificial intelligence for homework, saying that AI ‘won’t stand in authentic wonder before the beauty of God’s creation.’
