Another great cover! Thanks so much, Jackie.
I’m delighted to be the cover artist for the March edition of Odyssey, the culture e-magazine for the British Interplanetary Society. It’s a digital painting using Adobe Fresco. #digitalart #coverart #sciart

Artists- life is so much calmer if you stop comparing your work to others. Same goes with careers and wee internet art groups, the whole thing. Fuckit. Do stuff for you. Never show anyone most of it. You’ll improve your mental art health a lot. Even just for a bit.

Happy launch anniversary, Columbus! 🥳

18 years ago today, @esa.int's Columbus laboratory ascended to orbit, nestled in Space Shuttle Atlantis.

This engineering & scientific marvel became the first permanent European research facility in space.

The aurora last night in Beaver, Alaska was just incredible. This is a real-time video (not sped up) of the crazy motion I saw. Also, look how BRIGHT it is, wow!

Typically it's the authors rather than the journal who provide images for press releases, so I can't put too much blame on RAS, but absolutely! There are so many artists, many with a science background, who can produce beautiful images often for a fraction of the article publication costs.

I've definitely overdone the stars here! 😂 So gonna tweak that a bit.

But this is supposed to be a fun drawing not a super-serious one. So I'm mostly gonna scan it and not be too fussy.

Please don't use this AI slop.

There are many scientists and artists who have produced accurate and beautiful images you could use.

You might want to check the trouble that the British Museum got into recently.

Shame on you.
Is the Milky Way powered by dark matter rather than a black hole? 🤔⚫️

That's the suggestion in a new study published in our journal #MNRAS, which challenges the assumption that supermassive black hole Sagittarius A* is at the centre of our galaxy.

A feast for the eyes 🤩

This gorgeous starscape is a vista of the Lagoon Nebula. See the dark patches scattered all over it? They're huge, collapsing clouds of gas and dust that will soon give birth to clusters of young stars.
