Paths to Power (PtP) is out in @bjpols.bsky.social! It is a database with data on cabinet members' social profile globally from 1966-2021.

This is a great team effort with @chknutsen.bsky.social, @peterla.bsky.social, @inalkristiansen.bsky.social. But many more helped us along the way 🙏

What happens when you combine @jacobnyrup.bsky.social fondness for turning dictators into Pepper Pig characters with my PowerPoint slides for the course I teach, Way of the Dictator. You get one of the greatest collaborations in the history of comparative authoritarianism 😆

The war is Ukraine’s fault because they haven’t shown enough “gratitude” to Donald Trump. This is like watching a Godfather sequel where the Don has advanced dementia.

This is not a peace plan. It is a proposal that weakens Ukraine and divides America from Europe, preparing the way for a larger war in the future. In the meantime, it benefits unnamed Russian and American investors, at the expense of everyone else.

According to the FT, the US Chargé d’Affaires, Julie Davis, told the Europeans that “as much as we can support Ukraine continuing the war, there are limits”

But it is Europe that supports Ukraine. If anything, the US is making a profit from selling weapons.

It's even worse. The US is making a profit on the war right now, and apparently they are willing to give up that in order to force through this Munich thing.

US politics is insane
Q: “Are you affirming you think Trump is a fascist?”

TRUMP: “That’s ok, you can just say yes.”

The US is extorting Zelenskyy to sign away territory Russia doesn't even hold, as well as Ukraine's ability to defend itself, on the basis of Putin's word he'll honor a peace and Trump's word the US will make him.

Just so we're clear what's happening here.

We spent a year investigating billionaires for @washingtonpost.com.

We found: the wealthiest 100 Americans gave $1.1 billion to influence the 2024 elections — 140x more than they did in 2000. And almost all of that giving boosted Republicans.

Far too much credibility is being given to the new ‘Trump peace plan’ that would be tantamount to Ukraine’s capitulation. Here I explain why this new plan is far less than it seems and is unlikely to lead to anything. (£/free trial), open.substack.com/pub/samf/p/y...?

The toughest thing about the Danish immigration system is that foreigners have to learn to count in Danish.

If Labour was serious about being tough on immigration by copying the Danes, they would import the Danish counting system.

I don't know how much we can learn about immigration policy in other countries from a local election in Denmark that had nothing to do with immigration.

In a survey conducted by Epinion (n = 102.897) integration was the second least important topic (out of 13) for voters in this election.
