I’ve been saying this for ~15 years, and said it at work a couple weeks ago when everyone was remarking how 2020 feels so recent but also far away and everyone was like “wow way to bring the mood down. I think we all need a minute”
For a 10 year old, 5 years is 50% of their life. For a 40 year old, it's only 12.5%. For a 75 year old, it's only 6.6%.
This is why time seems to move faster the older you get, a year becomes a proportionately smaller percentage of your life over time. And why "a few years ago" expands into decades

My only minor issue with this philosophy is that the billionaires referenced are actual dirtbags, and the dirtbags referenced are just people trying to live their lives. But “dirtbag” got me to read it so nvm I agree. No notes.
You can measure an economy's actual, real life, concrete health by: are people able to do their own weird shit?
Do they have money to survive doing their weird shit? Do they have the free time to do that weird shit?
