Since ppl love campus anecdotes so much, here's one: I have colleagues who give students they know to be MAGA an A (in one case I'm aware of overlooking clear AI use), because the colleague is on a Green Card or H1B, and they know: one complaint like at Texas A&M, and they're on a flight home. This is an INSANE decision by the E.U.

“By signing up to mutual recognition of vehicle standards with the U.S., the E.U. has waved the white flag on road safety. This is not a technical detail – it is a political choice that puts trade convenience ahead of saving lives.”

This will kill people.

I just can't help but note how incredibly intellectually disqualifying it is for anyone to have been in that room while Yarvin said that thing and not immediately either call him a wicked fool or walk out.
At around the 22-25 minute marks, Yarvin, JD Vance’s court philosopher, proposes a system where black people would be made wards of religious ministers, who could force them to work as indentured servants and require them to submit to 24/7 “air-tag” monitoring.
It's amusing to observe Curtis Yarvin in this setting. He seems quite in love with the sound of his own voice. And most of his utterances are the sort of banalities you'd expect of a recent autodidact—wowed by the most superficial connections, and lacking deeper contextual knowledge.

The current crisis of the German constitutional court nominations process is based on the far right successfully selling the nomination of a very mainstream female law professor as an attack on the Basic Law and German society so that they can effective choose an alternative.

The politics of authoritarianism are binary in a way that is foreign to so many American institutions. You either fight back or they destroy you, and the search for some third way that exchanges compromises for security is folly.

The most serious Nazi shit in this extremely Nazi shit executive order may be the idea, just slipped in there, that one of the "divisive narratives that distort our shared history" is that "race is not a biological reality but a social construct." www.whitehouse.gov/presidential...

There used to be a general consensus around “sticking it to the man” and now an entire side of the political spectrum loves the man and will do anything for the man and gets their feelings very hurt if the man has to pay taxes.

What makes the current crop of rich people in this country so intolerable is that they could easily bail this institute out–and who doesn't like dinosaurs–and gain some popularity. But they are so greedy, they just won't help anyone but themselves.

This comment on r/fednews really stood out to me. Trump and Musk want people to think they're firing do-nothing "bureaucrats," but they're really getting rid of people dedicated to serving this country and keeping it operational. I hope these stories get told.

fascism is the kicking in of a rotted door, and the dem party has been committed for the last 15 years to insisting that the door we can all see is rotten and falling off the hinges is actually fine and good and maybe the best door in the world
The situation we are in right now is that the forces of the right are nearly the only ones willing to point out institutional failures. That they're lying about the reasons and won't fix it doesn't really matter. They are willing to call broken things broken, and that's enough.

Republicans ran into the room to SHEILD Elon Musk from having to come and speak to Congress. They want their billionaire takeover done behind closed doors. The people deserve transparency. No one elected Elon Musk.
I’m in Oversight Committee right now. Ranking Member Connolly just called for a vote to subpoena Elon Musk. Republicans out-number us on this committee, but many aren’t in the room. We’ll see who wins this vote. We deserve transparency and answers.
