I get this but my favorite power that I possess is my deep capacity to Not Give A Shit What People I Don't Know Think Of Or Call Me

Anyone can associate me with whoever they want, fuck if I care
I don’t like being referred to as a Yankee but I’ve realized this is not at all because I’m Southern, but because I specifically resent being associated with traditional New England Protestant culture and its flavorless foods
All people from the U.S. are Yankees. I say this as a person born and raised in The South because pissing off That Specific Kind of Southerner is a moral good.

This and also margin doesn't matter v much

If a baseball team wins the world series in extra innings in game seven they call them the world series champions

Mamdani will be the mayor of New York

If you earn more than 50.1% of the vote you conceded more than you had to
the credible thing to say here is that you can't take much away from this because of the circumstances, but even that seems wildly unfair to how Mamdani came from a protest candidate to mayor in less than a year

This is both true and also so weird to me in that I have a deeply internalized "what kinda man cares what other people think constantly?" impulse.

Ironic, but nonetheless liberating
So many men go through life like that. You can play poker because it's right-coded, you can't enjoy fruity alcoholic drinks because they're women-coded, you can't lick an ice cream cone because it's gay-coded. All day, every day, choosing and judging things based on coding for narrow norms.
November 26, 2025 at 6:40 PM
I don't like this and don't do it (I prefer to ignore norms but if I do end up caring, I like when people follow my preferences without them knowing I had anything to do with it)

I fully agree with this post
I think one of the things that I have pissed the most people off across the most social contexts, over decades, is asserting a fairly simple claim: people who spend a great deal of time and energy policing/defining social norms in a particular setting probably enjoy doing that

Counterpoint: it's fun to argue with strangers about pie as long as everyone is cool
People foisting their pie takes while also making other people feel bad because they like a pie is key Social Derangement Syndrome.

Before social media, we didn’t air our dumb thoughts to everyone. We didn’t face stupid criticism from strangers about the pie we like.

Let people like their pies!

Apple pie is bad. This is not really debatable. So is key lime pie, while we’re on the topic. Pecan pie is the 🐐 tho.

I saw wicked 2 and it was great

But I also saw the original Jumanji and Joe Dirt and I think wicked 2 was the third best movie I saw this week

That is still high praise. You should see it

A medium good pumpkin pie is better than any cheesecake I've ever had
I get a lot of hate for this view and in turn I'd only ask if you've ever had a pie as good as a typical cheesecake. The answer is no, you have not. Cheesecake invalidates the whole pie category. Hell, regular cake barely survives the cheesecake onslaught on the strength of carrot cake alone.
The dirty secret of pies is that they have the lowest ceiling potential of all sweets. Your best pie is merely fine. Your median pie is bad.

okay this isn't holiday food related, but one time my grandparents got into A FULL SHOUTING MATCH in a diner because my grandfather ordered a reuben at dinner time and my grandmother tried to stop him because "a reuben is a LUNCH sandwich"

My aunt who famously can’t cook tried to make a pumpkin pie. She didn’t know what cloves were, so she put garlic cloves in it. Whole.

In case this is of any use to anyone, a trick that turned me from a picky eater into an adventurous one: 1. I had a crush on a girl I was eating dinner with, 2. It included endives and many guests 3. I decided to try to understand why someone who *did* like it would like it, instead of whether I did
One of my less fortunate core memories is not getting to try foods I was interested in because my dad hates new foods so much he didn’t try pizza until he was like 25 and it shows in how I feed my kids.

Brandon Nimmo Will Now Do His Sprinting To First Base In Texas
Brandon Nimmo Will Now Do His Sprinting To First Base In Texas
Apparently someone at MLB headquarters turned the stove on and accidentally left it going. On Sunday, ESPN's Jeff Passan reported that the Texas Rangers and New York Mets were finalizing a straight-up player swap of Marcus Semien for Brandon Nimmo. Semien will be taking his defensive talents to New York City, and Nimmo will be taking his whole sprinting-to-first-base-on-a-walk deal to the AL West. This trade is also of the unc-for-unc variety, and carries the contract implications that come with such maneuvers. Semien is 35 years old and is owed $72 million over the next three years; Nimmo will turn 33 the day before the Rangers' first game of 2026, and is owed $101.25 million over the next five years, which carries marginally less average annual value than Semien. Here is another characteristic of this sort of trade with older players: Name recognition aside, unless the players involved are bonafide All Stars, the margins tend toward minutiae. As the Rangers are laden with expensive contracts, four-ish million dollars a year can play a factor in a trade between a defensively valuable second-baseman and a slightly younger and a slightly more offensively productive corner outfielder. Personally—and this is just my opinion—I would take the older infielder who does not have the habit of sprinting to first base on a walk.

A friend who teaches theology shared with me a post about CS Lewis's Mere Christianity, which discusses foundational Christian logic across denominations. It reminded me of Dale's tweet below, and I wanted to share some thoughts here regarding modesty and respectability, which are often hot topics.
