It's the same reason people cheat in competitive games. They want to win without the work. They lack spirit.
The issue with AI users in indie game dev is that they are making a game, but they don't want to be creative.
You can always creatively get around limitations. Hell sometimes we put extra limitations on ourselves to inspire creativity.
