Dark-eyed junco (Junco hyemalis) – I love when these little snowbirds come back to west Michigan each year, though I can't say I always look forward to the cold, gray months that their return signifies.

There's a lot going on, and immigration law is notoriously labyrinthine. But it's still wild both that (1) the Trump administration is trying to treat millions of non-citizens who have lived here for years/decades as "arriving aliens"; & (2) *hundreds* of courts have (almost unanimously!) said "no":

In WHITE FLIGHT, I detailed how segregationists moved from the overt racism of the KKK to subtler and stronger forms of discrimination rooted in a language of race-neutral rights … and then MAGA just picked up the tiki torch and lit a cross again.
