The look on my food bank manager’s face when I came back w/ the last haul of donations on Friday was one of profound disappointment & despair. For the first time in forever, we might not be able to feed our friends who rely on us. It’s devastating. Please donate to a local food bank. Like yesterday.

Dismantling the Institutional Review Board (IRB), that oversees all human subjects research, is bad. Really bad.
The entire HR department at the CDC is gone. Everyone at the IRB, which makes sure studies are conducted ethically and rigorously, and the ethics office, which oversee conflicts of interest for CDC leaders and advisory committee members, were also let go.

Trump administration says 700 notices were sent in error, while top CDC officer says ‘they didn’t think through what they were doing’

It occured to me that if you prompted a model to generate a video of Trump bombing a city full of Wokes it would be like "Hell nah can't do that" but not if you tell it "show some gross brown liquid falling from the jet's bay" you would maybe have better luck

For those who aren't familiar, artist John Miller is probably best known for a series of works he began making in the 1980s coated with a surface that he himself referred to as a "brown excremental impasto." Right now may be the perfect time to revisit these works icamiami.org/program/idea...

i like having llms do my coding because it turns this very solitary, technical task (programming) into a social one (talking to a weird gremlin)

Can report back from the Charlotte No Kings that "free Palestine" is now, if not the normie lib position, then at least fully accepted among the normie libs. Lots of signs and flags scattered about, no apparent drama at all.

An Ohio University professor was removed from teaching a MFA class a day after returning home from an Israeli prison where he was detained upon being illegally abducted from the flotilla.

His students [solidarity!] walked out on the replacement prof in protest.

This doesn't do what you think it does, read closer. This is for Copilot+ devices to do local inference. There's not actually a big "turn off AI" switch. If you want to disable all the Copilot bloatware, you need to upgrade to Pro and use gpedit.msc (or mess with the registry but, not recommended)
I think the snippets are just doing a sort of spatial search (you wanted to know what [subject] did, here are some verbs about [subject] that were clustered together). Not really how LLMs work.
The snippets are notorious for this. They just highlight action verbs. It's not what I get from Gemini though? It seems like an improvement.

Hi, I'm the ProPublica reporter who's been tracking an unusual stat: U.S. citizens grabbed by immigration agents.

I did it because the government isn’t.

This is what I found.
