It’s tempting to compare these ghouls to 20th Century European fascists movements, but there’s no shortage of parallels to their actions and rhetoric in America’s past.

AI slop can’t be copyrighted, which is a fantastic development for billionaires who would rather not pay artists and writers for their work.
I have grown to believe that excessive wealth does something to your brain that is analogous to a serious head injury

Charles Dickens was widely plagiarized in America due to lack of US copyright laws and he railed against it, arguing that a nation which sees merit and value in new ideas and inventions passes laws which seek to preserve them. We did OK with that for a while at least. Now we don't care.
Amazon is making money off AI copies of books - and putting the onus on authors to prove they’ve been plagiarised.

Honestly, just stop buying books from Amazon. Get them from an actual bookshop or order them from a reputable book supplier like bookshop.org

Authors say Amazon's knockoff book problem is leaving them frustrated — and making the internet worse in the process.

Joseph Binder was the art director for the Navy after WWII.

Once I stayed up all night drawing actual illustrations for a spot that ran nationally on short notice and I would like to tell the people who “hardly slept” because they were “writing prompts” that they are soft pathetic babies who can go to baby hell.
McDonald's has released an AI-generated Christmas ad

The studio behind it says they 'hardly slept' for several weeks while writing AI prompts and refining the shots — 'AI didn't make this film. We did'

Remember, the big argument for AI in the arts is that these “artists” have ideas, hundreds of ideas, thousands, all that was stopping them was the hoards of gatekeeping musicians, writers, illustrators… and not that they were lazy and didn’t want to put in the work.

People should buy @meganpiont.bsky.social a drink or 100 for all of the work that she has put in over the past few months. She has created and as a result disseminated 10s of thousands of zines helping folks to know how to report ICE in their cities. This is a Megan appreciation post. Thank you.
