with the Olympics coming up, I cannot recommend enough just picking random sports and getting really into them at a moment's notice

did I know anything about women's foil before the last Olympics? I did not

did I become the world's biggest Lee Kiefer fan immediately? absolutely I did

Covering the police in any town in the US. There's no more accessy access journalism than that.
“We're winding up with a media that is doing an American version of North Korea.”

Wake up. Make breakfast. Do email. Watch a murder. Go to a party for a 5 year old. Laugh with my daughter. See a different angle of that murder. Hear govt officials slander the victim. Play Barbies with my kid. Feed her dinner. Tear up at that victim reading last honors to a vet. Put kid to bed. USA

Anyone looking to get into a comics podcast or just into COMICS—really enjoying the annual awards show episode from my buddies at @warrocketajax.com. They are so in love with this stuff (and equally in love with joking about stuff that is terrible) that it’s very contagious. overcast.fm/+AA6AG-nl698

Grant Morrison once observed, in an interview, that "our culture went from Star Trek to the Walking Dead in less than a generation" and the has stuck with me ever since.
Had a convo with owner last night and it stands out how little imagination we have for a better world.

Media is dominated by anti-heroes and gray morality. This is how we let ourselves off easy for not doing anything. This is how we douse hope.

We should have domesticated bears at the same time as dogs and cats. It’s unfair that we don’t have ursine equivalents to corgis, chihuahuas and golden doodles that love us and live in our homes.
This place needs some Innocuous Discourse pronto. Quote this with a take that’s not political or aggressive

Relating to Galactus at 42: I am from an unrecognizable previous millennium, hungry all the time, everything hurts and I live with a tiny person who won’t do what I ask.

I’ve long maintained that if I won a colossal lottery jackpot, in addition to more robust and sensible philanthropic efforts, I’d use as much money as necessary to get the B-52s to cover “C’mon and Ride It (The Train)” by the Quad City DJs.
lets say a wizard has cursed you with a lot of money. you are going to become permanently brain damaged simply by being in possession of so much money. the only way out of it is to spend a lot of money on something ridiculous and not at all useful

what would you buy to break the curse?

Discovering computer as an adult makes you go crazy. Discovering computer as a baby makes you go crazy. In all of human history, there will only ever be one generation to discover computer at the correct age: 13
The problem with every post-Millennial generation is they got to go straight to high speed internet. Of course you'll get computer madness that way. Make them start with those old screeching modems and work their way up

Worth noting that when I refer to “it happening,” I mean Donal Logue and Michael Raymond James reuniting for a Terriers revival.
Worth remembering that any time I refer to “it happening,” I’m talking about Disney+ announcing an animated epilogue film for the 90s Spider-Man TV show that stars Christopher Daniel Barnes where he finds Mary Jane.
Worth remembering that any time I refer to “it happening,” I’m talking about the original, theatrical non-Special Edition Star Wars Original Trilogy coming to Blu-ray.
