We've had Presidents who had poisonous metal in their mouths 24 hrs a day and Presidents who boozed all day every day their entire life and Presidents who thought a big skull meant you were smart and also George W. Bush yet somehow in 2025 we ended up with the dog shit stupidest one who ever lived.

MAGA and its agenda are *wildly* unpopular, and media are hugely out of touch for not saying so. Politicians who tap into this reality will thrive, and media outlets that reflect this truth will earn enormous audiences.

Big part of this too is 1) PDL had Adam Sandler in his first big dramatic role in it and 2) both it and Boogie Nights, in addition to being much more fun than Magnolia, had very cool bespoke DVD sets lots of arty kids coming up at the turn of the millennium wanted to own to show how cool they were.

To be clear and fair, I don't think it implicates our times. OBAA is nearly three hours long and movies are expensive.

Punch Drunk Love was huge among people I hung out with in college (2001-05, arty and writer kids) and Boogie Nights was basically Millennial Pulp Fiction. No one cared much about Magnolia or Hard Eight.

PTA wasn't Wes Anderson, but he definitely was a big deal. This was also over 20 years ago.

I see a post floating around about college students not knowing One Battle After Another exists and how that Implicates Our Times which sure fine but are you telling me eight years ago you would’ve asked them about Phantom Thread and couldn’t get them to shut up about Reynolds Woodcock for ten mins

Or maybe we're finally dealing with the truth of it, like should have happened starting in 1974 and every single year since

It may be—for now—a mild form of fascism. Political opponents aren’t being jailed or shot, entire opposition media outlets aren’t being shuttered, and books aren’t being burned.

But from Chicago to Portland, James Comey to Letitia James, and so much else—this is no longer America. trib.al/a0i8hTE

As opposed to fifty-something white guys wearing cowboy hats and sunglasses indoors at night in front of a picture of an eagle with American flag bunting for wings, you mean?

Kid Rock: Do you know what is stupid… these chicks running around on campuses with blue hair, five nose rings.

Fuck this shit and fuck anyone who's trying to downplay consequences for, for instance, the two meathead fuckjobs that held that lady down today with their knees in her back to cuff her and then crashed into a civilian's vehicle speeding off. New door has opened and we have all been pushed through.

If the national leaders don't want the smoke, I think we've seen that plenty of normal people will happily get after it, I'm not even sort of kidding. Whatever violence comes after the next election is going to first come from the bad guys, same way it's gone the last few, except this time, we know.

In every single episode, the Scooby Doo gang discover a human is behind the mystery, not ghosts or mummies or whatever. Yet they begin each new case believing the villain is a supernatural being. Every time. Not once do they say “maybe it’s an old man like last time”

Trump: "Portland, I mean -- every time I look at that place it's burning down. There are fires all over the place. When a store -- there are very few of them left -- but when a store owner rebuilds a store they build it out of plywood. They don't put up storefronts anymore. They just put wood up."

We are waaaaaaaaay past done dooming about this, these motherfuckers are going to lose and pay or the whole thing goes down trying to make them, end of fucking story.
jpgorman.bsky.social
I don't think this last part is even theoretically possible anymore. We are going to have elections, these guys are going to lose, and the thugs in the streets either stand down and go home to face prosecution for their crimes or they try to fight a hot war and die/hang/go to prison, their choice.

It's maddening to know that, let's say elections actually happen and Republicans lose and this entire coup is self-thwarted, all these politicians and lobbyists and media talking heads etc etc will all still have jobs. And that all these ICE thugs won't be in jail.

They also think Brooklyn is a neighborhood full of white non-binary hipster post-college dropouts and not what would be the fifth-biggest and perhaps single most-diverse city in the United States if it were its own place.

a) if you interpret "fix" in a veterinary sense, every word of this is, strictly, accurate

b) i can't get over how he literally can't make it through even this without that little simpering smirk finding its way onto his face

Q: Rescission are something Dems have said is a reason for a lack of trust. What rescissions are you discussing?

JOHNSON: We have more than $37t in debt. We're doing everything we can to get us back to sound fiscal responsibility. What does that include? A rescission package is part of our process
