let the US operate bases there as part of NATO protection against possible Soviet advances, as the years went by the US determined operating that many bases was too costly and ineffective so reduced the presence to one base.

A propos of the LPE Blog post from today about moving away from tidy proposals for incremental reform, this is a perfect example of why that approach no longer works. This is flagrant, systematic illegality at the highest level of government. There is no 5-point plan to fix it.

It has been accepted for generations that the only thing which can authorize agents to break into your home is a warrant signed by a judge. No wonder ICE hid this memo!
