I think it can be more effective with the higher average velocities we're getting now. Feels like the high pitch always used to be a setup to a down and away wipeout pitch.

Anyway, it's the playoffs, I'm just riding waves of despair and joy until however it ends.

It just felt so dead. And it got off to such a great start, too!

DarkGod's T-Engine takes it even further, defining so much in Lua, but I'm neither that brave nor that good.

This is the easiest advice you can take. Externalize all strings, and if you can separate the rest of your game config, do that too (SotW is a C++ roguelike engine whose actual world and story is defined in editable ini, txt, xml, lua files).

To every young or aspiring dev out there, look, some free advice. (Older devs, you know better. 💀)

For any game you are going to work on that has any GLIMMER of possible localization. Or editing. Or anything involving writing really...

DO NOT HARD-CODE THE VO/NON-VO/UI TEXT STRINGS.

"Hard coded text strings."

it's really fucking weird to me that my core politics of "we should try to help everyone live comfortably" is seen as more reactionary & extremist than "fuck everyone else but me"

Mariners take Game 1 of the ALCS, beating the Blue Jays 3-1.

The Blue Jays had just two hits – only one after George Springer’s leadoff home run. Trey Yesavage vs. TBD tomorrow.

Sadly, my contract with Blizzard ended in September. That means I'm looking for fulltime or contract work as a senior writer or narrative designer. If you need someone who can write sharp characters, poetic prose, and emotional stories, I'm available! www.hazelmonforton.com

It's #portfolioday! I'm presently a senior narrative designer at Blizzard, but before that I was at Bungie and Arkane. I wrote for the Writer's Guild award-nominated Dishonored: Death of the Outsider, and a bunch of critically acclaimed seasons and expansions in Destiny 2.

I think about this as my colleagues enthusiastically use copilot, gpt, etc. There's a small number of good tech Q&A sites (SO, etc). What happens when people stop going to the source? The death of source material had already started.

This is going to be a major shift in the political economy of news media. How it plays out, is resisted and embraced, is going to change how populations perceive and understand their world in subtle but critical ways. One day after another. @technihilism.bsky.social

That's wonderful. I've got many things I love about my mum but when it comes to baking, it was always store-bought at our house. Didn't really have much home baking until I met C and her family.

Haaate cheesecake. It's just unpleasant to me.

Sorry, it's just, this shit's public, and once you're aware people are lurking, it's hard to ever go back.

QT, type — think the better of it, discard. Again and again and again.

I'd rather listen to Nickelback than anything by AC/DC.

I continue researching How To Be A Female Artist even though the answer remains Be Rich Or Marry Well

I'm the same way. Made a few pages of notes at the start of SotW to get my head straight, but otherwise I work off a big textfile of bugs and suggestions that I can do in any order I want. I made a second game, no notes either. Something amazing about just finding what you want to do & going with it

obviously this is why there's copilot in fucking notepad

The amount of stuff that gets implemented because someone's boss cascades it down on a quarterly review.

Boss, we’ve got a problem. Users don’t want this stuff! They keep wanting to turn it off, even when we keep turning it back on!

Boss: I have an idea

Only been once, ten years ago, in the middle of winter (C went to the Midwest Clinic and I tagged along). It was fantastic and I'd love to go back, see the Cubs play at Wrigley.
