“Did they grow up under a rock??”

Yes. And the rock was probably put there on purpose by men who wanted uneducated people to control.

This is why we don’t leave any state or county or town behind. Nobody deserves to grow up under a rock. Especially one they would never have the power to move.

This is a fascinating story. ICE tried to buy a warehouse in VA from a Canadian company, to turn into a detention center. One of the company’s advertising partners basically told them that if they sold, they could kiss their ads goodbye.

🧶 Ends of the month: January 2026

Not a ton of knitting, and no finishing, last month but enough to keep my hands busy when my mind was overwhelmed and locking up.

I genuinely have no idea how to convey this to the American people, but I think the biggest impediment to any kind of immigration reform is that people are convinced that "legal" and "illegal" are immutable, intrinsic categories instead of a rapidly-shifting arbitrary constellation of regulations.

“Don’t let anyone tell you this isn’t your home.”
Yesterday, five-year-old Liam and his dad Adrian were released from Dilley detention center. I picked them up last night and escorted them back to Minnesota this morning.

Liam is now home. With his hat and his backpack.

Not everyone can protest. Not everyone can strike. Not everyone can donate. I get the limitations & restraints to certain forms of involvement. But there’s no excuse to do nothing. To remain silent. In this moment, to carry with life as usual. To say and do nothing is a personal failure.

my son is five, same age as Liam Ramos. you don't need to have a child the same age to be fucking horrified by the violence we are doing (and HAVE BEEN doing) upon immigrant children in this nation. but that he keeps asking for his spidey backpack is the kind of detail that rips my heart in two.

So, incredibly, the White House has chosen to escalate in blue Minnesota and retreat in Maine to protect a vulnerable GOP Senator.

It's confirmation that Trump-Vance-Miller view ICE as a partisan govt-backed militia to attack blue America while propping up their regime. 1/

The only Democratic statements I want to hear about the Trump gestapo are like this, from the awesome Philly DA Larry Krasner. No less truth, no less fire.

This child looks devastated. We know from the courageous actions of his fellow detainees (his “fellow detainees!” He’s five!!!) in Dilley that there are others like him.

I honestly don’t care if maximalist demands are bad strategic politics. We should make them because they’re important moral ones
Just visited with Liam and his father at Dilley detention center. I demanded his release and told him how much his family, his school, and our country loves him and is praying for him.
