Well I’m the treasurer of school PTA now and I have to make a budget and I realize, wow, we need money. We need to send the 8th graders on a field trip, we need to tell teachers how much PTA can reimburse them for classroom expenses. Point, help if you can! #Somerville

Senator Murphy also lays out a clear set of codified demands that Dems can stand for. Among them:

*no more using budget to punish enemies
*no more using FCC to censor critics
*restrictions on ICE lawlessness in interior
*clear ban on troops in cities

Celebrating two years of the E-Bike Lending Library!

In the past two years, the E-Bike Lending Library has grown from 4 bikes in a backyard to 40 bikes serving hundreds of riders across Greater Boston. We've completed more than 1000 loans... and we have an ambitious plan to complete even more. 🧵
A lineup of cargo bikes, each with pink milk crates on the front labeled "Community Pedal Power".

At first blush, I thought this video was pretty funny. Hee hee … the clever cyclist outran the incompetent cops … like a Saturday morning cartoon!

Then, unbidden, my brain started to see all the various things that are so crushingly wrong and depressing in this scene.

ICE attempted
and failed to disappear a food delivery guy.
It needed to be scored.

Hey @cityofsomerville.bsky.social whats up with these gates that appeared at the new Ken Kelly park? The one blocking the ramp seems to make the park completely inaccessible to wheel chair users, and they block a good portion of the sidewalk when open.
A black metal gate at an entrance to a park is swung open into the sidewalk adjacent the park A black metal gate stands shut in front of an ada accessible ramp.

to me, the “column” is less a form than an opportunity (and a challenge). you’re telling me i have as much space as i’d like to make an argument about anything i’d like to an audience inclined to pay close attention? well let’s see if they’ll read 2000 words on democratic legitimacy. (gift link)

Thank you to all the neighbors who were out today trying to keep each other safe. Let's find this man and get him free. @massgovernor.bsky.social , @katjanaballantyne.bsky.social , I want every resource working on finding him - and the 4 other people detained earlier today - and getting them home.

This morning at 11am, corner of Hathorn and Broadway in Somerville MA. 3 ICE vehicles idling on nearby corners. I was following two ICE cars that were cruising around the neighborhood.

This person was just walking down the sidewalk when two ICE vehicles stopped and officers jumped out to stop him.

I think this is right. Wouldn’t underestimate just general “anti-establishment” sentiment either. Ballantyne trotted out major MA Dem endorsers, and we either did not give a shit or it pissed us off more.

@jake4somerville.bsky.social and @willieburnleyjr.bsky.social advance to the finals. Ballantyne is out.

@wilfredmbah.bsky.social with a solid lead for at-large. Thomas, Iaccarno, Klekota, and Spicer are out.

Nobody knew how that was going to turn out, folks. Don't let anybody tell you they did.

Have heard that that Jake Wilson and Willie Burnley Jr are top 2 votegetters for mayor. Don’t know about city council or school committee.

“Charlie Kirk was a bad person but even bad people don’t deserve to be murdered” is all they have to say. It’s not hard.
joshuaholland.bsky.social
I don’t need to be told not to celebrate violence or speak ill of the dead but all this hagiography of Kirk is just absurd. He was a vicious, bigoted troll who devoted his life to making things as shitty as possible for anyone who wasn’t like him. He made the discourse worse in every possible way.

On one hand, reducing car use reduces urban pollution.
But on the other, everyone likes it and cities become more livable
Average nitrogen dioxide concentration in Paris has fallen significantly Her proposals have faced pushback — from right-leaning politicians, a car owners’ association and suburban commuters, who say that targeting cars makes their lives more difficult.

But last month, Parisians voted in a referendum to turn an additional 500 streets over to pedestrians. A year earlier, Paris had moved to sharply increase parking fees for SUVs, forcing drivers to pay three times more than they would for smaller cars. The city has also turned a bank of the Seine from a busy artery into a pedestrian zone and banned most car traffic from the shopping boulevard of Rue de Rivoli.

Carlos Moreno, a professor at Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University and a former adviser to the city, said the French capital has developed “an urban policy based on well-being.”

I don’t know if the greater danger is that they ignore the results or that they put too much stock in the results (like all city surveys)

I want the school rebuilt at its current site too and it was obvious to anyone that eating into green space in a city that has little of it would be unpopular.
