At the end of the day, the Black Lives Matter era was about whether people should be killed in the street, and lots of people decided yeah and put those little blue flags on their cars. It spread to everyone because it stopped for no one.

'Why don’t you try doing nothing, sire?' If only Donald Trump would take this advice once offered to the equally irresponsible Kaiser Wilhelm II (via Bloomberg Opinion)
Trump Is a Lot Like Kaiser Wilhelm: Vanity Itself
An admiral writes of a world leader who is familiar to us: “He is vanity itself, sacrificing everything to his own moods and childish amusements, and nobody checks him in doing so. I ask myself how people with blood rather than water in their veins can bear to be around him.”

Marimar Martinez was the first US citizen shot by ICE.

They claimed she was a terrorist. Said she was brandishing a weapon.

They lied. Video footage exonerated her and showed the ICE agent shot her five times.

He bragged to other agents “five shots, 7 holes”.

A wide grin was plastered on Marimar Martinez’s face Thursday as she thanked her attorneys outside an Illinois courtroom and told reporters, “I’m just blessed. I’m happy.”

We’ll say it again, ICE is terrorizing our communities. ICE is making us all less safe, less secure, and they are hurting and killing people in our streets.

Check it out, Evanston, and please share with friends who might be DPOE voters.
Every democratic process — from orgs to formal elections — deserves accurate and accessible information so voters know all of their options.

Heads up, Evanston.
Tomorrow, the Democratic Party of Evanston members will vote to endorse candidates.

Unfortunately, the DPOE misrepresented us on the ballot, didn’t tell us, and still has not issued a formal correction.

So we’re doing it ourselves:

“I am now left to raise our son and to continue teaching him, as Renee believed, that there are people building a better world for him. That the people who did this had fear and anger in their hearts, and we need to show them a better way.”
“We were raising our son to believe that no matter where you come from or what you look like, all of us deserve compassion and kindness,” said her widow, Becca Good.

"On Wednesday, January 7th, we stopped to support our neighbors. We had whistles. They had guns.”
"Had the admin. not deployed taxpayer-funded officers into the state for political reasons, there’s plenty of reason to believe that Renee Nicole Good – poet, mother, and treasured neighbor in her Minneapolis community – might still be alive today."

The U.S. is spending $37.5B on ICE this year—more than Canada’s entire military budget. That’s double the EPA, FDA, and OSHA combined.

It costs every household $300/yr for ICE to terrorize their neighbors. Even if ICE meets its cruel goal of 1M deportations, that’s $37.5K per person. For what?

Prison rape is wrong.

Jokes about prison rape are wrong.

Eliminating protections against prison rape is wrong.

If another country sentenced a criminal to be raped, we'd consider it a crime against humanity.

BUT

A large segment of Americans regard prison rape as a de facto part of the sentence.
BREAKING: Trump administration plans to end prison rape protections for trans & intersex people, memo says. A DOJ memo says certain standards under the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) do not align with Trump’s Jan. 20 anti-trans executive order, @byadamrhodes.bsky.social reports.

Every year since 1988, the United States has recognized World AIDS Day — until now.

Why not? Maybe because the Trump administration doesn’t want to acknowledge that its foreign aid cuts led to nearly 150,000 deaths from AIDS, according to Boston University researchers.

Shameful.
