i get deeply embarrassed when propaganda trips me, and very very annoyed when i catch it -- it's terrible for my health

i'd call it propaganda: we're way past the “1st time is an accident, 2nd coincidence, 3rd is enemy action” pipeline: we have actual enemies taking purposeful action against us

i would be very very annoyed at a company which fucked me over this way

UNFORTUNATELY, while Congress allows the Berne bare minimum -- a suit for actual damages -- it made both statutory damages and attorney's fees conditional on registration either prior to the infringement, or within three months of publication if the infringement happened immediately at publication.

what folks are missing [i think?] is that cheap power sources just don't have the margin in absolute value to be attractive:

e.g. if the same 1GW costs $1 from solar vs $2 from hydrocarbons, there's gonna be a lot more margin on the latter

and stupid money chases profits
klocktower.org
In terms of profitability, sure. But as I understand it, a lot of solar fields are owned by relatively small, local producers, including local utilities. The amount of capital, and thus the lobbying capacity, isn’t anywhere near what the carbon-fueled industries are rocking.

oh man, that reminds me that Kissinger's dead ;)

they can do that OTC in the USA as well -- i do know that parties to such have to be qualified investors, maybe that's what's stopping them in the USA and not over here: restrictions on whom they can target?
lbruno.org
oh absolutely, it's just a twitch i have these days whenever i see an etsy link: i assumed i had bought a joke gadsden flag from someone aligned politically w/ me, now i have this traumatic reflex
lbruno.org
i'm reminded of how both Mandela and the Suffragettes got sprayed as terrorists
lbruno.org
my face when i learnt i ordered a funny patch from a trumpet -- in other words, now i check profusely before buying

not saying that's the case here, just sharing trauma

the population of Russia doesn't have a say in the matter at all, that's the point
lbruno.org
no worries, i have no need to know it

it's one of those cases where i ask a proxy question without thinking: “have you been on air?” because i had forgotten your country has the tech level

but instead of asking that, i used the proxy question for some unthinking reason; it's a pattern i fall into
lbruno.org
bunch of eejits in this world acting as if “Russians” have a say in the matter
lbruno.org
here in Ireland if we take the morse code version of the test we get the 2-letter suffix call-sign, that's the incentive ;)

Ian Watkins’ ex girlfriend reports him multiple times to the police for what he was doing and they treated her as if she was hysterical in every sense of the word. Misogyny is dangerously and deadly, it played a huge role in those poor children’s torment. Hope he went roaring

Ian Watkins is dead, and that's a good thing. Unimaginable depravity.
lbruno.org
ah wait, already technician probably;m carry on
lbruno.org
does that mean you got a call sign now, or did you have one already?
lbruno.org
forgot to say it explicitly: i expect 2008-style bailouts, and that's how the rich will maintain both assets and cash-flow, leading to being able to buy further assets at a discount

sadly i don't know how to use this info to protect my own arse from the oncoming freight train; would welcome advice
lbruno.org
but i'm deff gonna enjoy seeing China's GDP in dollars go #1 economy

[i have a pet peeve about GDP measured in coin, rather than purchasing power; China's already #1 economy on GDP-PPP for a few years now, just not when measured in $/USD]
lbruno.org
it won't be equally controlled for everyone: 2008 saw some institutions and some asset classes bailed out, but not all of them

i'm fully expecting the cycle to come back around, and if it blows up during trump it's going to be even more “fun”

and then the rich will buy the dip again & consolidate

On 16th March, 1968 Warrant Officer Hugh Thompson Jnr was flying helicopter recon for a US attack on My Lai, an alleged Viet Cong-controlled village in Vietnam.

But as the attack developed below, Thompson realised he was witnessing something something else:

A massacre.

He decided to act. 1/28

quote from this, where that reasoning [heh] is offered to support a prediction that we'll see agentic LLMs go from 35% correctness to 90% -- because somehow constructing a 2nd step on a foundation of a broken/wrong 1st step will be perfectly fine, no impact at all

“““
If a system succeeds at each step with probability p, the probability of success across n independent steps is p^n
”””

since when would a multi-step agentic process consist of independent steps, it's a literal pipeline -- what are these folks doing/thinking?!
