Spelling Bee is inherently authoritarian because it pretends to depend on “words” but decides for itself in secret what counts as a word.

We really need the media, and people in general, to stop associating wealth with intelligence or ability.

This fucker (Thiel) is dangerously ignorant, but he's given a huge microphone anyway b/c he has a lot of money. Shameful.

QFT. With all due respect to young people, y'all have pudding brains, I'm not going to lose any sleep about the Bumfuck Community College Communism Club, but conservatives most definitely do.

College kids are an easy target, that's why Republicans center colleges in their conversations.

I literally do not care what is happening on college campuses because it is dominated by 18-22 year olds

crazy how "anti-DEI" rhetoric was just a smokescreen for a white supremacist campaign to purge minorities and women from government. literally nobody saw that coming.

Damn man, why would Trump voters be the ones who would insist that you can't cut people off? Maybe think this one through a bit!

Sharing this finding: Harris voters are the only group of people remotely likely to say it's OK to cut off friends/family for political views.

I don't think they're *wrong* — again, it's a question of identity. But we're very different from most of America. www.theargumentmag.com/p/when-ameri...

Dear people who are saying that the CDC directors who quit yesterday should have “stayed and fought”,

With all due respect, you do not grasp the magnitude of the problem of RFK Jr.

He is asking them to do unethical and immoral things that will actively harm the people of the United States. 1/3

I will never understand how American elites managed to convince themselves that uncivil debate — not fascism, not impunity and not widespread indifference to facts — is the defining problem of our time.

How We Brought Respectful Debate Back to The Harvard Crimson’s Editorial Board
To us, the solution is deceptively simple. Universities should create environments where students with different views must talk to one another routinely and establish ground rules that ensure they do so without distractions or prejudgment.

Illiberalism on college campuses isn’t inevitable. At The Crimson, it took only a few months to radically improve.

When a top CDC scientist resigns citing eugenicist rhetoric from federal health agencies, everyone should absolutely be paying attention.
Eugenics plays prominently in the rhetoric being generated and is derivative of a legacy that good medicine and science should continue to shun. The recent shooting at CDC is not why I am resigning. My grandfather, who I am named after, stood up to fascist forces in Greece and lost his life doing so. I am resigning to make him and his legacy proud. I am resigning because of the cowardice of a leader that cannot admit that HIS and his minions' words over decades
created an environment where violence like this can occur. I reject his and his colleagues

"People who haven’t been to the Market since the car cutoff should give it a try. Shoppers no longer have to constantly hop around to avoid cars...Walking on the cobbles feels like a neighborhood experience, not an I-might-get-clipped-by-a-bumper gamble. It just feels friendlier."

Do you agree?
Let's keep rolling with a car-free Pike Place Market | Editorial
The extension of the car ban on Pike Place is welcome news and the move should be made permanent, the editorial board writes.

Rural residents have, by law, more power over our political structure than anyone else. They own more responsibility than anyone else for what our government does. My entire life I've been told we can't do good things because rural voters hate city voters and politicians have to cater to them.

Cis people:

This is where you fucking step up. Do everything you can to support trans people in the coming days. You're going to hear horrible, hurtful rhetoric about us. Shut it down. Don't let it stand.

And buy the trans people in your life a drink.

AAA estimates the average cost of owning a car is $12,297 a year, and recommends drivers spend no more than 10 percent of their income on car costs. This means you should make 120K to afford the average cost. Median *household* income in the US is $77K. The math just doesn't work.

In a democratic society, leaders of govt. agencies don't bestow favors and prizes on the elected leader and thank them so profusely. They ultimately work for the public, not the president. By contrast, these embarrassing public displays of loyalty are a recurring feature of authoritarian politics.
