Judicial reviews are not the enemy of progress — they are a vital safeguard

Recent headlines have been flooded with a false narrative about the planning system

Fred Logue: Judicial reviews are not the enemy of progress — they are a vital safeguard
Judicial review is a way for ordinary people to ensure that laws protecting their homes, communities and the environment are enforced.

Update: This evening, I have submitted a formal planning enforcement complaint to Cork City Council. Their planners will need to decide whether converting green space to parking requires (part 8) planning approval. #Cork
If you thought Bishop Lucey Park was the only nature lost in #Cork lately, think again. Today, Cork City Council removing trees and grass to lay concrete for parking of council vehicles in Blackpool. No planning permission, no 'Part 8', no public consultation. Just green space & nature wiped out...

Recent CSO data found 72,000 vacant homes empty, connected to services & ready to go
So why are they still empty?
Record homelessness, children being traumatised
'Cos of ideology
Introducing compulsory rental & sales & custodian squatting would be transformative

Greenhouse gas emissions per capita. The broken grey line is the path required for 2030 targets. Ireland is miles wide of it. The nearest neighbours are crushing it.

Thanks to JJ O'Donoghue and Tripe & Drisheen for reporting the legal farce preventing the renaming of streets, parks and other places in Cork and across Ireland.

In 2011, the law was changed — but 15 years and 7 ministers later, regulations needed to give effect to this are still not in place.
Bishop Lucey Park changed, the name didn't
In July, Cork City Councillors voted to rename Bishop Lucey Park. That was the easy part; now the process is caught up in legislation and a possible vote of the park's residents.

Just a heads up with all the Christmas markets and fairs on at the moment - if you see art or art-based pieces for sale, ask who the artist is, because the amount of people deceptively slapping "made locally" on pieces locally farted out by their computer and a genAI prompt is getting depressing

We won't always make popular decisions but at the very least we could make fair decisions.

Fine Gael & Fianna Fáil would prefer to angrily shut down debate, rather than hear criticism of their rent hikes on the least well off while giving the maximum tax cut to homeowners.

Given that the BBC endlessly gives platforms to lobbyists from the dark money junktanks without revealing their interests, shouldn't we be seeing such apologies every day?

Better still, how about not doing it? If they want to appear, we should know on whose behalf they are speaking.
