Epic fantasy is what you read when you want to lose yourself in a world rich with fellowships reflecting a panorama of human experience and ambiguity.

Sword and sorcery, on the other hand, is what you read when you want to see a dude stab a giant scorpion in the face.

So I made Dark Autumn 1st. Then I made C'oretta the smollest catgirl & was Not Prepared for how large some things in Eorzea really were, or how tall NPCs I thought short were. So Aeryn is tallest midlander, close to my IRL height, so I could have a sense of the actual scale of the world.

I don't care if a non-disabled person accesses a disability accommodation for the same reason I don't care if a child whose parents are rich gets free lunch at school. We don't need to means test being a kind person. I have better things to do with my time than be a cop over social services.

LRP I got rid of Spotify earlier this year, swapped to Deezer. There are tools out there to transfer your playlists. I've heard good things about some other streaming platforms. Bandcamp directly pays the artists for purchases & has a streaming app as well, so slowly building a library there too.

At my Spotify Peak, I had over 32k streams in a year, but because it was spread out over my large song library, I didn't get paid for any of it.

Not a dime.

If you have ever bought an album from me off Bandcamp, you've supported me directly more than Spotify has since 2023!
For the last 2.5 years, I have not seen a single cent from Spotify despite my music getting thousands of streams.

I am so happy that this is the lowest amount of streams I've ever had on Spotify.

Please continue to enjoy my music on literally any other platform if you can!

So here’s the thing: I, a certified Disabled™️ Person, do not actually care if anyone fakes for an extra 20 minutes on the test. I care deeply about how the fear of that very thing puts up flaming hoops disabled people have to jump through.

Maybe listen to disabled folk on this one.
Balancing "no person with a disability should be denied accommodations" with "it's important to discourage non-disabled people from pretending to be disabled to take advantage of these accommodations" is really difficult and I don't have a great answer for what anyone should do about it.

Remember: DO NOT LEAVE NEGATIVE REVIEWS OF A BOOK BECAUSE AMAZON DAMAGED IT!!!! This does NOTHING to affect Amazon, only the author who had nothing to do with the damage! Amazon has an extremely lenient return and replacement policy, PLEASE just use that instead.

So a lot of people who have never seen silent movies might wonder how we can get so absorbed in them.

Well, the opening scenes of UP are essentially silent and people are still talking about how touching they are. That’s the power of visual storytelling

The "time bubble" is a dev tool more than anything, & for players is meant to allow them to make up their own timelines for their own WoL's stories. The characters even refer to vague time passing cuz it is, but we get to determine how much for our own WoL. I tend to do 1ish yr per expac. For ShB:
#wolqotd ✨ for you, the player.
do you ignore how time works in ffxiv?
i'm speaking of the time bubble where no one seemingly ages, time travel as it was introduced with alexander and then reintroduced in shadowbringer and then endwalker?
do you find the canon of all of this confusing?

This is a huge part of why so many people think we're in the middle of a widespread "anti-woke backlash": Small movements opposed to social progress are collected into trend stories by conservative media. Far larger movements that want more diversity are ignored or cast as threats.
"Woke is ruining D&D". Meanwhile Dimension 20, one of the wokest real play shows around, just sold out Madison Square Garden and the Hollywood Bowl for live shows and brings armies of new players to RPGs.

The alpha wolf concept was debunked by the very guy who coined it because he realized that wolves in the wild are extremely communal and defer to parents for guidance. The “alpha” behavior was observed in captivity and was a terrified and violent male lashing out to feel some sort of control.
idiot guy: i'm like the wolf i'm stalking my prey alone through the forest and being raw as fuck even if i'm in a group i'm the alpha
actual wolf: i love my friends so much!!! i love to romp and kiss my bros and work together as a family <3 awooo etc etc have you seen the puppies oh my god come see

lrp honestly I think both means of worldbuilding are totally cool, live your best whimsical life, but people do tend to get caught up in the anachronism thing in fantasy, so it's worth remembering that you do in fact have the freedom to not give a shit and still have your setting make perfect sense

One of the best worldbuilding guides you can read is Tolkien's notes on translation, where he talks about the fact that *everything* you write is in practice being translated into English; is is no more anachronistic to use the word "September" than it is use the word "sword" or "house" or "hello".
Not sure how I feel when a book tells me that instead of "12 months" they have "10 arcs," which are each 40 days long, and they all have names like Blossomarc, Flamearc Snowarc,.... I appreciate the world building, but couldnt we have just kept the calendar the same?
