Once more for the record, my under-the-table message to a colleague during a pitch by Palantir.

At a drinks reception this summer, I listened to a former colleague talking to a young man who’d recently been to Dubai. They vied with one another to tell stories of excess, of drink, of entertainment, of luxury, of fawning service.

I left the conversation, feeling nauseous.

I've been to Dubai for work a few times. It's like the world's biggest airport lounge. Utterly soulless. Can't imagine wanting to live there whatever the financial benefits. (That's before you get to the ethical issues...)

People keep telling me the UK is so over and they're going to move to Dubai and, like, fine. Go on then. Would you like directions to the airport?

I’m supporting Year 6 pupils with their reading. Getting to know them last week, I found out that one boy is obsessed by all things Roman and one girl loves engineering.

As a History graduate who’s just retired from the project to build the UK’s longest railway viaduct, I’m excited by both topics.

The dome of the Pantheon in Rome - still one of the largest domes in the world. Originally built by Agrippa during the reign of Augustus (27 BC - AD 14), it was rebuilt during the reign of Hadrian (117 to 138 AD) following a fire. 📸 My own #RomanSiteSatutday #Pantheon #Rome

At last we have an upward trend. Good news - the chart of the year!

You’ve had the answer three times, but look at illustrations of a medieval scriptorium and you’ll get the idea.

I’m listening to and reading ‘Leviathan’, from cover to cover, and it’s bloody hard. Part 1, chapter 9 so far…

She’s not just innocent;
she’s simply magnificent.

This is nothing more than a continuation of the president’s desperate weaponization of our justice system.

I am not fearful — I am fearless.

We will fight these baseless charges aggressively, and my office will continue to fiercely protect New Yorkers and their rights..

This is precisely me.

Also me: I am really old and my joints hurt, I need to wee and I forget things.

Ah, happy 88th anniversary of the day Oswald Mosley tried to sell fascism to Liverpudlians – and someone concussed him with a brick
A man in a suit stands at a microphone which has been mounted on the roof of a van. There are loudspeakers at his feet, and a building behind him. He has an arm raised, and is flinching as projectiles are hurled at him, because he's a fucking Nazi

Today marks the start of Baby Loss Awareness Week.

This year, it comes as the UK is about to pass a law guaranteeing the right to bereavement leave for miscarriage, making us one of only 4 countries in the world to offer it.

My heart is with everyone who experiences the heartbreak of baby loss.

Today is World Mental Health Day. It’s a day that should be every day of the year. You are worthwhile, and you deserve to be here.
