@juliajoyce.bsky.social, was it you who told me about it? You're the cause of about 60% of my TBR...

#booksky I need your help. Someone a while ago told me about a novel coming out inspired by the heist from the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum - the weirdest, honestly funniest, and still unsolved art heist ever. I can't recall the title/author. I NEED this book! Help?

This is Clio. She did not study for the test today. Also does not know how to read. 12/10 (IG: paspastotoro)
a black and gray long-haired yorkiepoo sits at a desk in a university classroom. a piece of paper lays on the desk in front of her, her paws propped up on the desk as if she's bracing herself. there are students in the background hunched over and working on paper in front of them. the pup looks at the camera with a concerned side eye. she's realizing she probably should have read some of the homework before eating it.

He wants an experience, frictionless, easy to consume, to take in without having to adjust perspective, accept, understand. It reminds me of Ezra Klein cherrypicking the 5 remembrances while eliding the 4 immeasurables. They don't actually want to live. Also, they never read Lathe of Heaven.

There's a phrase the man uses; "really smooth out the variance in people". That stopped me dead, and broadened my understanding - this man, who has published products that really show he has a small, limited understanding of the human experience, does not *want* actual human relationships 1/🧵
The guy behind those ‘Friend’ ads in the subways is tired of talking to New Yorkers
New Yorkers are taking note and even scribbling their own graffiti on the ads. Avi Schiffmann, 22, says that's the point — but doesn't feel like talking to them.

Yes, precisely this! I'm in NYC, in his district, and the main thing that makes him *him*, is that his genuine love for this place shows thru in so many ways - his humor, his deep grounding in our history, etc., etc.

Also, here is a thought: I wonder how much "not feeling like an adult" is correlated with impostor syndrome.

Straight up. The 5 Remembrances alone puts the self in a bubble. It's isolationist, and it's a cheat. You pulled yourself up a security blanket, and said 'fuck you, I got mine' to the rest of the universe. With the 4 Immeasurables, the practice is as nothing.

shit's pretty bleak but at least I have lived long enough to see the Buddhists dunking on Ezra Klein:

"Coates is describing lynching, and Klein responds with a meditation about his own mortality. That’s not wisdom. That’s avoidance with a spiritual veneer."

Ezra Klein Just Showed Us Everything Wrong With Secularized Meditation
There’s a moment in Ezra Klein’s recent interview with Ta-Nehisi Coates that’s been bugging me.

This is a gorgeous photo of a beautiful cat, but I can't help but think that expression foretells an *epic* amount of chaos to come. He looks like he's plotting how to land on someones head at 2am. *alt text: pic of a white furred blue eyed cat on a blue blanket, paws outstretched.

I can’t begin to tell you how damaging “the world isn’t fair, get used to it” line has been to every child’s psyche growing up and therefore has led to a world that stays unfair. If we teach children to get used to an unfair world, we are destroying the possibility of a better world.

Jennifer L. Armentrout and Hellmann's
In a promotion designed for BookTok enjoyment, Jennifer L. Armentrout’s just-published THE PRIMAL OF BLOOD AND BONE is available in a special, limited-edition "garlic-scented copy, infused with Hellmann’s Garlic Aioli to create a one-of-a-kind, Craven-proof book." They explain: "This exclusive edition is printed with garlic-infused ink, designed to ward off Armentrout’s bloodthirsty monsters, the Craven. While humans may dread garlic breath, Hellmann’s has cleverly transformed this social faux pas into an unexpected – and delicious – form of supernatural protection."
