I'm worried this comes off as an "everybody clapped" story. My point is that so many brilliant and well-meaning people simply couldn't conceive of America as the type of place where fascism could take root. When it did, they couldn't look it in the eyes.
When I was studying populism in J school during the first Trump term, I remember asking my prof after having read all existing research on the subject, "When does populism become fascism? Because it really seems like this entire field of study is dedicated to avoiding that term." He had no answer.

I tend to think Black Mirror is a pretty dumb, barn-broad show, only innovative to people who've never encountered sci-fi before. So it says a lot that the only ideas tech has anymore are lifted directly from it.

What browser is good right now? I don't want Chrome for obvious reasons. Edge has better features but is also owned by a horrible company, and I just don't like Firefox. I don't want a browser stuffed with AI, so Arc, Brave, and DDG are out as well.

As a teenager, I decided there was nothing wrong with doing drugs, having sex, or rejecting traditional values. Now that I'm in my thirties and have seen what can happen if you don't do those things, I'm glad to report that I was entirely correct.
