OK, so the very definition of stupid is doing the same things, and expecting a different result. So if you make tens of thousands redundant, and they either become unemployed or leave the country two things happen. They don't spend money in the rest of the economy, and they don't pay tax

IME expensive commercial law firms tend to make poor #OIA decisions, because they simply do not understand the Act and are opposed to its core principles.

But that just means more billable hours to deal with the Ombudsman.

Tests showed the presence of E coli bacteria in the water.

E. coli gets into drinking water primarily through contamination from animal waste run-off.

Farmers: "New Zealand has the most efficient agricultural sector in the world."

(To be fair, some have even been to one or two other countries.)

🧵Spotted While Roaming in Aotearoa New Zealand:

At a country bus stop surrounded by a riot of flowers, a tiny human (2?) is waiting with Mum.
Tiny Human's hands are on his hips, eyes narrowed, watching the road.
Ever vigilant.
He's not sure when this bus is coming, but he's ready for it. (1)

The school board pushbacks confirm my theory that the so-called liberal MPs’ job experience - often limited to working for the Party, and placed in Party-friendly companies - has left them uniquely ignorant of how much the rest of our society has moved on. It’s not 2005 anymore, and Brash still lost

So here is a thing

You fire tens of thousands of people
Cancel infra spend
Crash the economy
Force your valuable experienced workers off shore
Do nothing to fix any of this

This shit happens, because you are incompetent

Phew! Thank god that dairy is still making loads of money. I was worried that we were fucking the environment and out-pricing dairy products from the domestic market for no reason
📢 The dairy giant has increased its first quarter profits to $278 million, $15m more than a year ago.

I mean, remember when Luxon went to London and met all the buffoons behind Brexit and came home and said "yeah we share common values and can learn lots from the UK Tories" or some such garbage.
Since then we've learned Brexit wiped 8%+ from their GDP.
Guessing this is the target Nicola has to beat?

In addition to citixens arrest powers, the bill will also repeal restrictions on using force to defend property. So shopkeepers will not only be allowed to assault people, they'll also be allowed to use weapons. Its a recipe for mayhem.

The regime has dropped its new Crimes Amendment Bill, which has its new citizens arrest powers. It also includes a new offence of being _rude_ while robbing someone.

My top tips for folk who are struggling with food costs in NZ in 2025 -

1. Get yourself a council house c.1980 with 1980 rent, secure long-term tenancy, and a substantial garden

2. Plant a mature vegetable garden in 1975

3. Get a job that pays a living wage

4. Never EVER eat anything as a treat

Last week @theverge.com published my essay exploring the limitations of large-language models. This week, that same essay is cited by a federal judge in Michigan to distinguish the process of human reasoning from what these models do. Very, very gratifying.

holy shit, an accurate legal critique of LLMs. LLMs don't reason because they're just stitching together plausible-looking sentences indifferent to the content

Yeah, no shit.

And then those companies will complain about low income over the busy period cause it was meant to make up the difference from the rest of the year, get rid of their biggest overhead (their staff), which then makes it all worse for next year.

Least this govt is sorted though

And the thing is. THE THING IS. It's not just that this government has cancelled/ raided funds for good stuff, to funnel towards not-good stuff.

It's also that every time they're offered a choice, they pick the very worst/ arguably actually evil option, to no good end. www.rnz.co.nz/news/politic...
