New people! I choose to present myself as a cat here as a warning about the level of capriciousness I display.

I will hiss at you and block you for a bad vibe. I don't give a fuck. Your rug may be subjected to the full force of the Strategic Pissing Initiative.

if only there were people out there with good ideas who needed funding
AI filmmaking is completely unserious.

You've got people with $30k begging the internet for ideas by next week because they have nothing of their own to say, it's just slop for the sake of slop. Embarrassing state of affairs.

its insane that drafting as an occupation used to just involve countless huge rooms of dads in shirts and ties, scattered all over the country, leaning over tables with their asses perked up all day as their 9-5 job

It’s uhhhhh a little weird that much of the debate over the definition of “working class” in the U.S. is about what you want it to be a euphemism for and not about, say, one’s relationships to labor or capital
Again, a key problem is that we've turned "working class" from a quantifiable term to an abstract one.

It now better means "jobs I personally think are worthwhile" rather than an income or education range.

So we have people now who think 6 figure salaries after taxes are "working class".

This is true for many things. Its why slow-to-update animated series develop such devoted fanbases; after spending a couple months making up their own answers, they're doubly as invested as if you'd released the thing whole.
I've nomentioned this before, but a friend had a hypothesis that to get lots of engagement it was important that a game have flaws and gaps. People arguing the rules, house-ruling it, "fixing" it, as opposed to a game that Just Works.

It's notably cynical and yet it sticks in my brain for a reason.
You can deliberately create an incomplete game and rely on the group's adherence to the promise of the game to finish it for you (don't do this).

The reason I say 'basically' rather than 'completely' is that strange dynamic on the Internet - you see it play out on here - is the way that social media turns a load of people into 'that teenager who invents a story to scare their friend at a sleepover and scares themselves'.

Left-liberals and Democrats are organizing patrols to foil ICE while the Left sits at home and says that they're pre-emptively not voting in the midterms because Newsom will be the nominee in 2028 (which he will not) and performing ~opsec concerns~ for why they'll never protest.
the american left is a lost cause, left leaning dems are the path forward, and - note to every online leftist who sees this and gets mad online - they’re toothless

Hasan Abi doesn't even sincerely believe in any of the politics he spouts. I don't know why people can't see that. He's just like his lovely unkie Cenk- just a vacuous well of egocentric conspiracy theories he passes off as a politic.
Hasan isn’t going to vote for any Democrat in 2028. It has nothing to do with Newsom.

oh I see the incel Nick Cannon is pontificating again: "Nobody dies to defend a "multicultural economic zone"!"

yes, it's farty ethnonationalism. however, it's stupid science fiction fandom crap too.

the Jerry Pournelle version of this was, "nobody ever died for a better standard of living."

you obsess about not reaching your alleged youthful potential because you don't feel like an adult yet.

you don't feel complete or acknowledged as a mature member of society.

that's because you're not. you have a child's tastes and a child's attention span. the world befuddles you, little genius.

I'm never sure whether this country is more screwed up about gender or race. there'll be a run of obvious parentomachy in the Discourse™, and I'll think, wow these people sure are fucked up about their moms, but then there'll be some turd that reminds me they also think Blacks are circus animals.

My opinion on the 2028 primary is that it's the midterms, be for real people. The insistence that we need to always be in Presidential campaign season is spiritually corrosive.

HBO did an update of Fahrenheit 451 a few years ago with Michael B Jordan and the change was "this horrible government recognized how destructive the internet was and severally limited access to it" & with the benefit of several years of hindsight I'm like "........were they wrong to tho???" lol
I think it’s awesome how cabinet secretaries take orders from anon randos on the internet

this is also what people do when they say that if people <18 get to vote, they should also be eligible for the draft

age limits exist to protect children, who are a vulnerable group. not to balance power between children and adults—that makes no sense. people do not need protection from voting!
