America is an ideal, a promise it has sometimes strived for but has always fallen short of. Even if I recognize that failure, I believe in the promise, and I’m not handing over that promise to a bunch of fucking fascists.
“When fascism comes to America it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying the cross” goes both ways. Calling the U.S. a irredeemable hell hole cedes ideological ownership of American identity to the fascists. The U.S. is imperfect but not irredeemable and they don’t get to decide who is American.

hello and welcome to the political genius exam. here is question one. which is a more compelling message:

- the president is sending armies to occupy cities and kidnap and kill people and your town could be next
- a meal at the cheesecake factory that previously cost $100 now costs $104.9
Romance alert: Trump's reckless tariffs have Valentine’s Day costs up across the board:

Roses 🌹16.6%
Chocolates🍫 18.7%
Ribeye 🥩 25.4%
Restaurant meals 🍽️ 4.9%

i’ll end this little brainstorm by just asking what it is, exactly, that the MAGA right likes about the United States, since it explicitly rejects those things that make this nation distinctive — its pluralism, its revolutionary heritage and egalitarian aspirations, and its republican institutions

Sort of gives away the lie that they're arresting hardened criminals who are drags on society when they're setting up traps to lure in Good Samaritans
CCTV footage appears to show DHS agents posing as people having car trouble in order to lure a target out of his house before arresting them. The target comes out and starts helping them before 3 vehicles surround the scene. The car "experiencing" trouble then drives off with them.

America may have always been like this for far too many people but this administration is bringing it home, directly and in person, to a ton of folks who have never seen it before

that this is their response is extremely encouraging

Utterly unacceptable in a democracy. In a sane world, House Republicans would be drafting impeachment articles today and Senate Republicans would be preparing for a trial to convict and remove him from office

Why is the head of an agency charged with preventing terror attacks talking openly about meddling in our elections?

Impeach Kristi Noem

Calling the requirement for a judicial warrant before entering a person’s home one of the Democrats’ “new restrictions on federal immigration agents” crosses the line into outright falsehood. It’s in the Bill of Rights! A rule as old as the republic.

Let’s be honest about what’s happening.

He’s talking about taking control of how elections are run, after losing elections he didn’t like.

Our elections are run locally on purpose. Decentralization protects voters from intimidation, political interference, & power grabs by any one administration

This thread from a civil-attorney-turned-immigration-attorney due to the ICE/CBP surge in Minnesota is illuminating and enraging.

The people carrying this out, as well as those who stand idly by and let it happen, deserve to rot in hell.
I don’t really know what I expect in posting this, but maybe some people see it and can learn from it.

I’ll call it “lessons from an unwilling immigration attorney.”

As your rep, I would move to impeach and convict Pam Bondi. No one, not even the Attorney General, is above the law when they shield the powerful and ignore victims seeking justice.

Intolerable. Unjust. Tyrannical. Evil.

Liam Ramos was just the tip of the iceberg.

And elected Republicans support it. The party of child concentration camps.
This is Maria, a 6-year-old detained by ICE last year.

She began to unravel soon after arriving at a detention center in Texas, wetting the bed after years without accidents, crying through the night and begging to breastfeed again.

Most of all, she wanted to be reunited with her cat, Milo. 1/

Decent people see friendship as a matter of mutual respect and support, with reciprocal obligation borne out of decency.

Trumpists see only “do what we say or we’ll hurt you,” a disturbed 12-year-old bully’s conception of strength.
Canada has stood with America when we were at our lowest, has fought and died in wars alongside us, has done everything a nation could to help and be amicable with another. And now America has gratuitously stabbed Canada in the back, and continues to do so. Things can never be the same again.
With Friends Like These
To defend itself from Trump's thuggery, Canada must seek new friends.

It is deeply distressing that Democrats open negotiations with "ICE should follow the constitution" the GOP is like "lol nah" and that's the story.

I see people defending Democrats sometimes like "what are they supposed to do?" Our constitutional republic is falling. Act like it, for starters.
This is literally what CURRENT LAW requires. It’s in the Constitution! www.politico.com/news/2026/02...

Incarcerating people who have not been convicted of a crime and who are not accused of a crime is a violation of basic civil rights and the definition of a concentration camp.

Locking up people because of where they were born goes against American principles.

Wasting taxpayer dollars on cruelty.

The only reasonable implication of saying this is he must be removed from office. That's a binary yes/no. To explicitly say no would be insane. To studiously avoid saying either way makes the allegation seem cynical and insincere. There's no splitting "he's a child rapist" from "he must be removed."
Good morning. The President of the United States was in the middle of the most serious child sex trafficking ring of the last quarter century.

He is referenced not a dozen times in the case files. Not 100 times. Not 1,000 times. He’s referenced 38,000 times.
