you might be able to split these games into being either "Souls", or "Wounds" games, though often they're both.

Baldur's Gate (1+2) A Soul Game
Planescape Torment (haven't played it in decades) - Sould
Neverwinter Nights 2 - Wound
Mask of the Betrayer -Soul + Wound

imagine people who do their very best to present themselves as competent and smart in their daily lives, who then look absolutely pathetic as they wreck their $600,000 sportscar for the fourth time in a year.

Plus there's always the chance something even better happens to them.

Yes, sportscar racing is a very bad thing to watch, for a myriad of reasons, but:

Where else can you watch rich guys drive expensive cars into walls and say things like: "Oh wow, he ran his car like he does his company!"
