When I'm giving a lecture and I can see that people are getting bored or checking out, I just start telling jokes or swearing so they get pulled back in. I've been really dragging on this part of my book so I've started just doing the same thing and writing down how I actually think about this stuff

This is the part of Ed Zitron’s perspective I find most compelling. As I read it: the rot in tech is because all the important stuff has been solved. We can do everything we need to do. But there’s no money in refining and maintaining; the structural need for always growth opens a door to madness.
Also anyone saying this is just boardroom disconnection (it is) needs to also know this is what a company does when they are completely out of ideas. Tech hasn’t got shit left.

i'm furious that when no pride in prisons protested the pride parade, we were met by far more cops far more willing to use violence than the police have been against destiny. i'm furious that liberal gays thought that was fine — the discomfort from intracommunity disagreement worse than bigots.

However, opposition figureheads should be doing more than posting online about how bad Tamaki is. They can and should be highlighting how the state's supposed protective measures have repeatedly failed here.

While every politician is battling to have the most scathing reckon about an incident in which teenage girls were assaulted by groups of grown men storming a library, it would be fantastic for ANYONE - especially politicians - to focus on the actual guardrails we have and why they weren't used.
I want to be really clear that Tamaki's rhetoric has been measurably increasing in the last few weeks, which extremism researchers have noticed and contacted Police about. This is shocking but should not be a shock. This was signalled, clearly building and (in my opinion) plainly incited.

I am so heartbroken. I got to know Elisa two years ago when she came to me with hundreds of emails of anti-trans legislators scheming around restricting trans rights. I helped get her story told by the New York Times and Washington Post. She deserved so much better.

I'm sad to share that the trans vet that took her life outside the VA last week was apparently Elisa Rae Shupe.
She's someone many of us know - she was responsible for the mass email leak that let us know how the ADF, Heritage, etc planned to enact trans eradication we see today.
