As I mentioned before, there are a lot of volcanoes on Oliander, so the volcanic smog is terrible. However, they have manatech air filters on top of their buildings to help protect people from the worst of it.

I didn't really show any animals, but I doubt they'd show themselves with basilisk monsters roaming the volcanoes. They're definitely more like the Sahara in how plants are few and far between, but they have things like cacti and lichens, plus--

It's very colorful to contrast their black sands, and very much inspired by Arabic architecture. They have dome-shaped rooftops and arched doorways, until you get to the housing district, where buildings are more blocky.

The planet of Oliander is mostly desert and volcanoes with some oceans, but... I mostly focus on the desert in book 1, so I'll stick with that~ It's a black sand desert due to eons of ash mixing with sand.

--things are more tense lately, as they sit teetering between control from the Asloriat Kingdom's knights and the demon lord's minions taking over. It's only lightly hinted at in book 1, but the people aren't happy about it... they just don't have much of a choice.
